Are the dash centre panels the same, where the vents, cd and climate control ac panel go, on the TE,TF etc as the TJ11?

They look the same in pics but has anyone tried swapping em or know 4 sure?????

Yep they sure are, swapped one from a TJ into a TE before :D

Just make sure you're looking at a climate control one or a non climate control one etc etc

Okely dokely

The next question is do ya unclip em or do ya start at the bottom looking for screws?

Pull out the gear surround thingo... then yank the cigarette lighter assembly part (with the ashtray), then yank the top aircon vents out. Then you've got like 4 screws to take out on the radio surround part, then that just slides on out.

There's a good "How to" with pics sopmewhere in here, or linked..... possibly search 'radio install' or 'console removal' etc.....

Basically, pull the gear shift panel out, lift at back of gearstick opening first, then pull up the rear edge - hinging at front below ashtray.... then pull straight back about 1cm to release some plastic tabs. Move it out of the way. Remove ashtray, grasp in the ashtray opening and pull straight back - there are clips either corner of the ashtray panel, should come out OK but it has been known to break these clips. This exposes two screws at the bottom corners of the radio/air-con fascia panel. There are also two screws at top of radio/ar-con fascia, getting to them is a bit more involved.

Need to remove the under-dash panel below steering wheel - about 6 screws plus a clip (take care where that panel slots into the side of the centre console - I have "modified" an interlocking piece of plastic there on my cars (meaning I broke it, half-deliberately). This exposes the side of the heater box........ look for a piece of cable (like bike handbrake cable) which is clipped in a shiny clamp and terminated in a cast alloy loop, the loop sits over a short lever of the heater mechanism - detach this loop of the heater arm. The cable runs up to the drivers side thumbwheel on the centre vents, controls whether centre vents get fresh air or heater/air-con flow. This cable needs to be unclipped to allow removal of the centre vents.

Lever gently with a small screwdriver between dash moulding and centre-vents panel, at either side - it should unclip for you, if you dig your fingers behind the centre-vent panel and in front of the centre-display screen that should help pop it out. Again, should come out OK for you, but it is possible to stuff these clips - try to pull straight back, not at any angle. With Centre vents panel out, you can now see the top screws at corner of radio-air-con panel.

Remove screws and radio panel will lift away - you need to unclip wiring loom from Hazard lamps switch, radio, climate air-con and the concertina hose from climate control unit. If you have manual air-con, its just a electrical loom connector for fan switch air-con switch and illumination you'll need to undo.

All centers can be swapped. From the TE's to the TW's. The auto a/c from the TJ's is compatable with the controls from the TL-TW and vice versa (with possible rewiring), just don't forget the bracket that the HU mounts to as it's different.

Ive got the head unit sorted but the wiring and plug for the clock is totally different.

Im gunna whip em apart and draw up a diagram so I can change em.

Got a clock and the vent panel (had a whoopsy pulling mine out) for $15 :woot:

You mean the clock is in the centre-display panel - above the centre vents?

Some centre displays only have warning lights, others have trip computer too, some have trip pooter as well as the clock. Amount of wiring and style of connector varies accordingly.

That is on my "to do/dream" list - I have a KJ early-series and a TJ series II - I much prefer the trip pooter display up high and larger in the centre-display area. I have a trip 'pooter centre display (sadly, not a clock one) and I plan "one day" to parallel the trip info out of the cluster.

I got the puter in the dash but only lights in the vent display.

Im changing the HU so I need a clock up there, easy parrallel.
