Hey Guys,

As some of you may know I've recently supercharged my magna. We are using a huge BOV to eliminate supercharger surge and flutter. Anyway, was talking to a mate this afternoon and we were wondering what are the legalities with regards to BOVs in NSW. My mate did mention that BOVs (not plumbed back) on turbos are illegal because they vent exhaust gases to atmosphere, is this true? If this is the only reason why theyre illegal I can't see why BOVs that arent plumbed back on a supercharged car is illegal as its only emitting air to the atmosphere. I'm prepared to plumb it back when it goes in to get finishing touches but just love the sound so if it could be legal and stay I'd be up for it :)

Cheers

Noise pollution aswell AFAIK.

but if you're keen.

Yes, all atmospherically venting BOVs are illegal, technically. XR6Ts get away with this from factory though IIRC. *shrug*

Illegal I do believe.
It's not the air that the BOV vents that's the issue, as it's just air.
The problem is that it's metered air, as it's vented after the AFM, this then creates a temporary rich mixture and stuffs your emissions.
Plumb back vents the air back into the intake pre compressor but post AFM, so no metered air is lost and your fuel mixtures stay where their meant to be.

could always see if you could get it engineered or atleast find one that can be
im pretty sure 86_elite had a HKS one thats been engineered
maybe send him a PM about it?

Thats a fairly decently priced one too :) Might have a look into that. Are they difficult to install as opposed to a normal BOV? Before I'm dropping it off Ive been trying to make everything perfect for engineering (pod cover, noise etc etc). Brad and I found a guy that will engineer it if A) its ADR approved or B) we have a noise and emissions test and the structurablility is good. As its yet to be ADR approved B is our option so if the BOV (in its current state) doesnt stuff up the emissions test it'll definitely fail the noise test I assume. Went to the RTA to book my bike Ps and ask a few questions and got stuff all answers so cheers for the insight guys :)

I can't imagine they're that difficult to install versus normal ones. Admittedly if I go the forced induction route I'll be getting the Deceptor version for full control. Yes its much more expensive but like they said, loud when you want it and silent when you don't.

Theres also the StealthFX with a dial you can turn on the top of the BOV itself which switches from vent to atmo to plumb back.
