My 2c - more important is a rim that actually suits the car. No point getting a set of 18s that look like s**t (and there are plenty of them around). Shop around and find a pair that actually suits the car - IMO excessive chrome, black rims and overly complex rims should be avoided.

18's are good mate fairly comfortable and reasonably priced.

17" is an in between size - in a couple of weeks you'd regret not going for something bigger. 18" is big, without being stupidly big - they're the right size for Magnas imo.

The difference between the two is negible. I just upgraded from stocko VR-X rims (17") to a set of 18s. Ride is ever-so-marginally rougher, but my new tires have much stiffer sidewalls than my old set, and they're pumped hard, so it could be that instead. Tyre prices don't differ much either. My old tyres were Goodyear Excellence (225/50/17), which were $260 a pop. New tyres are Maxxis MA-Z1s (235/40/18) which were $240 each. The Goodyears were a little quieter and a little softer, but the Maxxis are grippy as shit, which more than makes up for it.

Oh yeah, get something nice and wide that'll fill up the guards too.

19"s do look damn good, but finding load-rating tyres isn't easy. Plus I wouldn't be keen trying on taking anything that big on bumpy, pot-holed roads. YMMV I guess, but I've been a little paranoid since my dad bent an 18" Advanti rim with chunky (245/45) tyres on the main highway outside Brisbane :eeek:

I'm somewhat less concerned about that as I have more faith in the construction of Enkeis. Not that it can't happen, just that they are stronger.
