I own a 2000 S1 TJ Executive and im having a possible power issue.

When i turn the key to start the car, the car will start and go upto 2000 revs or however much it does then about 3-4secs after starting it stalls. The only way to stop it from stalling everytime is to give it some revs.

Now personally i think i look like a wanker everytime i rev the car when it starts :facejump:

Gremln - car shouldnt start if the battery is gone.

Im betting on your ISC (Idle Speed Control), does it stall with air-con on?

mate, magnas do this

they kick over.. then rev up a tad as per usual then stall... you turn the key again and they start (or maybe 3rd time around if case is bad)

do a search mate.. been covered 100 times over... ive personally had 4 x 3rd gen magnas suffer from this when there batteries retired....

its either his battery or bad contact on immob. wire going to ingition barrell

dads car does the same thing, though it dosnt stall, and the battery is brand new and i thought it was the ISC too could be wrong.......

Symptoms
The engine intermittently stalls several seconds after starting. Typically, the engine will remain running after 3-5 attempts to start, but sometimes will take more attempts

Solutions
There are known issues with low battery voltage causing similar symptoms (where the ECU shuts down the engine if the voltage is too low).

Some Magna models (including the TJ) have experienced similar issues to the ones described, which have been traced to connectivity issues between the immobiliser control module and the engine ECU, and in some cases, have been resolved by directly soldering the connections to each module.

It't one of the two

I'd say this one is battery as revving the car is keeping it going which normally doesnt work when its the immob. wire

my opinon is its not the ISC. but good test is to turn the air con on while the car is running.. if the car holds a steady idle your ISC is fine

if it doesnt stall you prob got something else going on..

possible ISC problem if the revs are dropping low and not holding steady idle

Its usually not stuffed, as Gremlin put it, but on its way out. Its got enough current to turn the engine over, but then seems to run out of energy before the alternator gets enough back to it, making the car stall the 1st or 2nd time. Really common 3rd gen issue when the battery gets old.

the revs are actually quiet high... start it up and usually is around 800rpm now its up around 2200rpm
sounds cool with the zorst though ahahaha

Gremlin - strange, I've had 2 batteries let go and never presented me with these symptoms. That being said it is possible. I mentioned the testing with aircon on to see if its ISC.

Mr Mitsu - you're best of listing the symptoms, like test with aircon on. Finding someone with a multimeter and testing the battery as per Gremlins suggestion etc

i would suggest a quick search of this topic - stalling when starting.

several members have had this happen to them in the recent months - myself included.

couple of the more common causes:
- immobiliser wire (loose)
- battery (dying)

My problem, was the battery was getting old and wanted to be replaced. replaced it, and car starts first time every time without hassle or issue.

Actually, come to think of it, several members have had this issue with thier cars in the previous 6ish months

Na.....its been covered and a search finds it easy enough. I had the same problem, call road side assist and get a battery test and if it is even a little bit low I could imagine replacing it would solve the problem.

Yes I know... But I've only been a member for a short while now, and I've seen it been asked numerous times already.... Must be an age based thing that's suddenly started happening to a few cars around the place..
