As i said before i,m very new to magna,s and don,t know much about them,i have been reading some old forums about VIN numbers and need some help.
My vin number is 6mmtf2d42wt043882
Now what i,v been reading is that the 6 at the beginning means it should be a V6??
MM-mean mitsibishi motors
TF-model
Now what does the 2D42WT mean?

Now in this car it has a 4g64xs3974 motor was also told this motor is from a lancer?
Can anyone confirm or deny this please?

Now if it is suppose to have a V6 motor in the car would this motor fit?
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150359567700&viewitem=&sspagename=ADME%3AX%3ARTQ%3AAU%3A1123&salenotsupported

Hope i,m not to much of a pain from asking all these questions.
Thanks
shannon

Not sure about it being from a Lancer as its a 4G64, I know the Hyundai Sonata used the same engine. Some Lancers used a 4G63 which is quite similar and apparently the 4G63 DOHC head bolts up to the 4G64 block (could be wrong, has been a while since I looked at that). Hamish2 would be a good person to ask about all this, he ran a turbocharged 4G64.

The VR4 motor will fit, and its been done before, its just a matter of finding a FWD gearbox for it... Have heard that the FTO box will fit it.

Your VIN decode = 6mmtf2d42wt043882
(Someone will correct me if I have anything wrong)

Digit 1: Geographic Area (6=Oceania)
Digit 2: Country (M=Australia)
Digit 3: Manufacturer (M=Mitsubishi)
Digit 4: Car Line (T=Magna)
Digit 5: Series (F as in TF)
Digit 6: Engine/Transmission (2=Ralliart Auto) !!! Now this confuses me, I would have expected this digit to be a 3,4,5,6,7 or 8 ?
Digit 7: Price Class (D=Executive)
Digits 8 & 9: Body Type (42=Sedan)
Digit 10: Year of Manufacturer (W=1998)
Digit 11: Assembly Plant (T=Tonsley Park, SA)
Digits 12 to 17: Body/Serial Number

fitting a v6 to this car would mean changing engine mounts aswell as other stuff

if you wanted a v6 id sell the car and buy a v6 model.. be a much easier & cheaper way mate

Thanks guys for ur help.
As i said i don't know much about magna's so would be asking alot of questions.
I don't know about selling it as i just got it rego'd today for 12 months .
What would it be worth?
I paid $2500 for it and had to get a blue slip and do some work to get a blue slip done,i spent over $500 just on some parts alone. Then the cost of the greens slip.
I don't know if the car is worth what i have outlaid without doing some more mods to it?

unforunatly the car isnt worth much mate

but to pump a few thousand into it just to make it a V6 isnt really the best idea either..

i'd personally leave it as it OR go the evo motor path.. that way it'll be something quite unique with a heap of power... it still wont be worth much but atleast the money you spend will = a quick/unique car

thanks guys
Yah thinking i might just stick to doing the evo convert but thats a long way off i want to get the car looking good including a respray all black i,m thinking i,m also thinking of taking of the front bar and getting something differant as it just keeps scraping when i come in my drive way.
New mags ect,I just got the windows tinted today 5% looks good will put pics on tomorrow.

V6 is a straight bolt in so far as mounts go

The wiring, air con, power steering etc etc all need to be changed over, if you had a wrecked car there as a doner may be worth it of you can do it yourself
