I would consider converting this car to LPG to save some cash, however I want to know whether it can be done for this car, what extra work is required to get it ready for LPG and what can go wrong after. Also what type of conversion should be undertaken to it if any such as straight gas, direct Injection etc?

Cheers,

Tom

in my personal opinion if you are going to bother with a gas conversion, even if its just a vapourisor system, get dedicated gas, so the engine can be tuned to run efficiently on gas, so you get the most saving out of it. Depending on how much you want to spend you could get those 2200$ deals then get your 2000$ gov-rebate back. Or you could put in 1500ish after the rebate (3500 total) for an vapour injection setup. Considerably more reliable and efficient gas system but does lean towards performance lpg systems, but will see better lpg economy from it (in all its a better system) but as stated costs more.

direct lpg injection has only just come onto the market, and from my hunting around have found a couple places that can supply and fit for ~6000. Commodores have been said to have been releasing, or going to release, and it will cost 4-5000$ more then a factory price.

I know the rebate is finished in Victoria but I'm not sure about the rest of the nation. My uncle is an LPG converter and I remember him telling me that he had to re-call his list of potential customers 'cos they'd missed the rebate, he had to see if they still wanted the conversion. I've had the conversion done on my 2.6L auto and it's fantastic. There's another thread on this somewhere in the 2nd gen section.

In QLD its dropped down to $1750 for the rebate. I have Lpg and its great, really nice to fill up.. Only problem is that I have the mix system I think...

Its $1750 in Vic now, just like the rest of the country.
