Okay 20's were really cool at first, now, not so much!!

Got new set of tyres on today 245/30/20. Thought awesome no more worries but now goddamn they scrub and scraped and everything!! Corner here this scrapes, bump there that scrapes. Its mostly the rear thats doing it but really I need help on this, what can I do to solve the scraping problem??

The previous tyres were 225/30/20 and I didn't have any issues but the tyres looked like they were barely fitting the rims and when I got the new ones today the guys told me the bead was nearly ready to break so thus the 245's

your rolling diameter is along way out now mate...

225/30 is damn close to correct... 245 is to big

ego would be the man to answer this (as he already has done)

Rolling diameter is fine, if his car came with 16's, in fact it's still smaller.

225/30 is too small by far. Think Ralliart 17's. 225/50/17. Drop one profile size per each increase in rim size & you'll end up with 225/35/20. Nearly identical diameter, etc.

To the OP: As said above, roll guards & check offset of wheel to make sure it's not fouling any suspension parts.

Im a pro at fixing the rubbing. If ya wanna come for a drive to Sylvania ill help ya fix it.

it took a while but the day after i got my wheels on we got the car to stop scrubbing with 5 people in the car. Was hard but it stopped. After being happy with no scrubbing with 5 people in te car i decided the day after that to get the super lows compressed another 1.5inchs..:P I got 245/35/20s all round..:)

Show me a side pic of the car. How low is it..? There is no sure thing as you cant in my language..:)

your a very correct..

sorry for that incorrect info from me..

i guess it must be the 245 width thats causing the rubbing

Could it also be that you have flares being a VRX and due to the wider rubber it is rubbing on the flares!
I know BennyVRX had that prob on his VRX when he went to 19's. He removed the flares and no more rubbing.

I'll get a side pick tomorrow morning, the car really isn't that low. Its running Kings Lows and KYB Excel G shocks. Just casual driving its okay its just when entering driveways and cornering that causes the body to roll a bit it scrubs. Little worried as on friday I have to drive to Newtown with a full car load and Im not sure how thats gunna fly?

my suggestion is that the sidewall of ur tyres are slightly too wide now and is scrubbing on the inner part of ur flares.. i'd say to look into a set of 235/30R20

EDIT: it may still scrub slightly (i'm assuming) but i doubt it'd be as severe

Well it'll have to be on the next tyre change, just spent close to $1000 getting 4 new tyres today.

Yeah when I got new tyres a few months ago I wasn't happy with them, went back to the place I bought them and they swapped no problem.

245/35R19 here, nearly identical size to 245/30R20 - only issues at the front end full lock on a slope. No scraping/rubbing during cornering. Offset? Mine's 42.

Yea back brakes are a tad little now aye lol

I can trim the flares but who do I see about rolling the guards? Smash repairer? and me being ignorant of the guard rolling process will my flares still fit with te guards rolled. My flares are very precious.

Flares are cheating..:P they make the car look 3/4 an inch lower.. Real men take them off.:)

I got my guards rolled at the shop that installed my wheels. Panel beaters should be able to do it too. The guards are rolled roughly in between the 10 and 2 position, which means they'll remove the clips that hold the flares on. There's screws down the bottom of each side of the flare which would still hold it in place though - my plan was to use double sided tape to hold the top of the flare in place.

By the way, I'm running the same suspension set up as you, and the tyres were hitting the front flares too. It was on a slightly uneven 80km/h road, so I'd hate to see what would happen hitting a large bump at speed.

I was just going to trim my back flares, but when I discovered that I'd have to trim my front flares too, I got lazy and decided to take them all off. Have a look at my Members Machines thread for pics. I've always liked the flares too, but I reckon it looks pretty tidy with them off.

Just checked out your car valdez, the flareless look does look good. Makes the side look cleaner. :sigh: guess the flares will have to go... :(

Yeah i took mine off to when i got the 20s. Well the fronts come off at the end of the street the tyre shop was in. Smashed all the clips off the fronts first corner. I then took them all off to sort of the scrubbing. Went to put them back on a month later and thought they looked crap so left them off.:)
