Hi Guys,

Thought you guys would be the best to ask this too...

My dad has a 1996 KE Verada, a fair few months ago the tranny died and had to be replaced - So the tranny is now replaced and drives very smoothly while going up the gear range... just when it goes to coming down from 2nd to first it gives this massive jerk... it does not happen always and if you slowly come to a halt usually it stops normally.. its just when you suddently stop it like throws you forward....
anyone seen this happen or know what causes this?
as it is very very annoying and need to get this fixed asap.. I have read up to dissconnect the battery for a while as this may help.. could be the ECU or the Brakes but nothin definite... ???

Cheers

Might be best to search for the Workshop manuals thread and download a genuine Mitsi Manual as PDF file - there is no specific manual for TE and TF models, but for your purposes the TH one should be close to what you need to know. Have a look in the AUTO trans chapter for any troubleshooting info, this will link to any suggested diagnostic procedures or adjustments/repairs that may address this symptom.

Q- how fast are u going when u change from 2nd to 1st

in my TH when u change from 2nd to 1st and ur going over 60km by the time it slows down and picks 1st u get a huge jolt because of the extra revs i suggest when driving just use Drive but if it does it in drive u might want to get it checked out

its an auto... so coming down from 2nd to 1st not very fast never over 60 - like you could be doing 50klm coming to a stop sign and when it comes to the last 10m it will just give this massive jerk occasionally

any ideas?

Thanks!

Had the same problem on a TS 3.0L auto - jerky downshifts into first while slowing down, without touching the gearstick - turned out to be the TPS out of adjustment. Search for TPS.

flush the tranny maybe?

Read the op's first entry and you will see its a new box - shouldn't need flushing!

I had a similar/same issue in a KE aswell.

Turned out for me it was just a matter of cleaning the PCV and the issue never rose again. However some other posts in that thread may be of interest.

i had a very similar issue dropping from 2nd to first, (would drop at 43k') having a 99 verada 3.5L

Anywayz, i had a 2" exhaust with a cannon, the inside of the cannon was blown so i got a new system put in from scratch.

And holy crap, it's ever so responsive and dropping down gears now is so smooth, even if i hit 80k's in first and just take my foot off completely, (i even have a broken drivers side engine mount) it just doesn't jerk at all anymore :D

basically the exhaust system we put in now has no resonators, and holds alot more backpressure

Mine did the same thing, first time it was because the transmission fluid needed changing. Most recently though, the past couple of times, its just been how the transmission has learned after disconnecting the battery. All I've ever needed to do is disconnect the battery, reconnect and then follow the steps laid out by mitsubishi for teaching your transmission, then taking it a bit easy that day while driving (ie. Don't floor it for a day or two).

Cheers guys,

might try this on the weekend! which one would i try out...(N-D to NR Procedure or the Upshift) or just both... so does the ECU reset just after the battery has been disconnected for 3 seconds.. would of thought there was more to it then this..(not complaining)

Just thinking shouldnt the guys who replaced the transmission throught of doing this straight after they completed the job? like new tranmission let the ECU learn from scratch?

Cheers
