Hi Guys,

just wanting to make a spare key for the car - The alarm system has been upgraded so i no longer use the immobiliser, but has the key itself got a chip inside it? to prevent it from starting if it is not there?
Do i still need to get a proper key with the immobiliser part or can i just get the key cut normally?

Cheers

my KS doesnt have a chip in the key, so it's hard to believe that an elite would.

From my understanding the immob. is wired to the alarm, so when the alarm goes off, the immob does its job. also works on time delay.

I'm pretty sure that's right, the immob is wired to the alarm.

I also have a TR Elite, and I want to replace all of the locks, ignition barrel, etc. And fit a different alarm to it, one with a proper remote instead of this IR remote that you have to be at the car to use. Swapping the locks for a set out of an exec probably.

Reason being that my key is so worn that it can't be copied anymore, and it's the only one I have. And the key only works in the ignition barrel (and I can easily pull it out while the car is running), it won't open the boot or the doors, and the passenger side lock was broken when some **** in Melbourne tried to break into my car and busted a pair of scissors in the lock. So I have to use the remote to lock/unlock my car, and the button has fallen out of the key so i have to stick the tip of my pocketknife in there to work it.

This will all be high on the priority list when i have the spare $$ floating around, until then, I put up with it the way it is.

wtp omen Take your door locks and boot barrel to your local locksmith. He can rebuild them and supply a new key to suit. Mitsi sometimes has the key number stamped into the lock barrel which makes it easier.

Give mitsu your VIN and they will be able to look up the key code.
