View Full Version : Driver's seat slide mechanism loose somewhere...
My drivers seat clicks backwards and forwards a couple of centimetres when accelerating and braking, definately the sliding mechanism. All 4 seat rail bolts are done up tight. Clicking can be felt at all places on sliding rail. Is this something that can be adjusted? Will be taking it out tomorrow to see if there is anything that can be done.

Another thing to check for is the wire that goes from one slide to the other that releases the slide. Sometimes these get damaged by things being put under the seat. If the wire is damaged it shortens it, and makes the fingers not engage properly in the slide. When this happens the seat can slide back and forth and you can hear or feel it clicking as it happens. Also happened when the wrong wire was fitted to the seat from the factory. I know, I spent a month investigating the bloody thing.
ok thanks magnabydesign, I will check it out.

The method in my HOW-TO?
If it doesn't work, then you need to put thicker washers, or more washers in mate. I had to put 3 washers in mine to stop it.

Standard. Nothing to worry about, it is just more of an annoyance

What?
The seat wobbling problem has been solved and a full guide was drawn up. Did you read the thread and the procedure on how to fix this issue?
ok well this was giving me the right royal shits so I decided to actually try and fix this. And failed. The seat in Disciple's guide is different to mine, there are no bolts underneath in the positions indicated. Besides, I think the problem lies in the tooth mechanism that grabs the rails. It visibly moves when I push and pull the rail backwards and forwards. There are no bolts per-say to undo and tighten things up, everything has rivets.

@Cyber-sapien,
That little toothy thing that is meant to grab the rails on either side - does it have a strong-ish spring holding it against the notched rail?
ie: the adjuster wire (mentioned by Magna-by-Design) needs to pull against spring tension to pull the "toothy thing" away from the "knotched rail". the spring tension should make our "toothy thing" ON BOTH SIDES grab into the notches.
As long as there is a spring on both seat rails which makes that "thing" engage the knotched rail, I can't imagine how your getting your problem. There's something spring-like at bottom of your second pic, covered in fluff, but can't see how that one would do what I'm trying to descibe.
If the other seat doesn't have the problem, try having a look-see under it and try to spot what is different......
in my 2nd pic there, you can see the tooth mechanism close up in red circle. That is moving inside the bracket surrounding it. There doesn't look to be any room for it to wiggle but trust me it does. Braking and accelerating is so annoying as i can feel the sit clicking underneath me
edit: yes it has a spring underneath that returns it to the locked position when the adjuster handle is let go. It has nothing to do with the adjuster wire, because this is happening on the door-side of the seat where the actual handle is located.

Is it meant to wiggle in that surrounding "bracket", or do you reckon a spot-weld has let go, or something? I'm not sure if the bracket is meant to move when seat gets adjusted, or is the bracket menat to stay solid and only the teeth get retracted?
If you pull the adjuster, are your teeth still square-ish in profile, or are they worn into rounded or points? If the teeth are worn enough to allow movement then your gonna have to replace the rails/adjuster from a wreck, I'd say. Would an extra or stronger spring holding the teeth in do any good, do you reckon?
If the seat is moving as you describe, its dangerous and you are absolutely right to be trying to get it figured-out. As is, if it was noticed it would be a defect or fail to pass at rego-check time.
Self-serve wreckers at Blacktown or Seven Hills may be your solution, unbolt seat from the underframe and swapsies?
its not a problem with the teeth or guide rail, they still appear to be 100% fine. It only does this on one side as well. I dont think its dangerous, the movement is maybe 1-2mm! Annoying nonetheless. It is the whole tooth assembly moving inside the bracket. No welds on that part as it physically moves when the handle is pulled.
