Hi Guys,

I've been noticing lately on very cold mornings that the speedometer needle on my TS Magna twitches and jumps rather noticeably. Is this normal? If not what can I do about it?

Also, another not exactly urgent issue is the analog clock in the dash. It doesn't work :(. Is there a way to fix it without deconstructing the entire dashboard? :eeek:

RE: clock, the clock just pops straight out, grab a wide-bladed screwdriver and carefully prise from each side, there's a lip on the edge of the clock that you can lever from once it's out far enough. Should be a 20sec job.
Keep track of the connector at the back, when you disconnect it make sure it doesn't fall back in the console or you'll have issues getting the bastard back up!

Easiest to test off-car, find yourself a 12V power supply (eg. PC power supply) and mess around until it either works or gets proven dead. If dead, you shouldn't need to pay more than $10-20 for one from a wreckers, if they try charging more, "tell them they're dreaming!":D

My speedo needle jumps and bounces in about a 10km/h range but its not limited to when its cold. Somehow it was worse when i got the car than what it is now?

Interesting

Since putting in my custom dials, mine stays stuck at 0 on HOT days........ then works when the dash cools down

It's cable driven, pull out the speedo cable and lubricate the inner cable. Unscrews from the gearbox after you remove the air ducting and you need to pull the speedo cluster out.

Just CRC or WD40 to lube cable? or dribble some trans fluid down it from the gearbox or speedo end?

Not a good idea. First you need to work out why the cable isn't turning smoothly, or if the problem is in the cluster.
Use a small screwdriver to turn the speedo from the back, and see if it turns smoothly. Turn the cable by hand and see if that turns smoothly. If the cable is just hard to turn, use some grease on the middle of the inner cable - it should just pull out. Otherwise you are looking at replacing either the cluster or the cable. Don't just dribble light oil down the cable, as it can work its way up the cable into the cluster - been there, done that, and ended up with oil stains on the speedo face.
