Well,
After the following happened:

1. Auto Gearbox revving out though gears
2. Going into Limp mode (stuck in 3rd gear)
3. Taking car to Auto specialist
4. being told that they would have to rebuild gearbox as fault could not be found
5. Me laughing at the "probably be about $2500 mate" statement

I surfed the net (including this forum) and:

1. discovered coolant all the the ECU. In all the plugs and leads. Due to..... the old heater core seal problem
2. cleaned up computer and wrapped in plastic bag
3. Flushed Auto box and changed filter
4. Disconnected heater hoses (don't have time to remove the dash and fix)

Now, its as good as ever. Not much call for a heater in Perth.... can't believe I could have shelled out $2500 for the problem still to be there.... Auto specialist my ****.......

Let this be a lesson....

Oh the car is a TF Magna by the way

Oh I've got one unopened 5l bottle of Mitsibushi Tran fluid left if anyone wants to buy it...

mate, glad to hear you caught the real problem. yeah some places will tell you whatever they need to to make the money. i refer to my recent exhaust adventure, with the place that fit my first muffler say "all exhaust pipes rest on the gas tank or on the chassis somewhere, its impossible to run the pipe and not have it hit", after the retarded monkeys had it resting on the gas tank and rear cross member. so yes, i do my own repairs !!

Yeah some places are terrible for that sort of thing. A girl I know took her magna to a transmission place after it clicked into safe mode after I told her to wait until I had a look at it, and they told her it would cost $2000 just to take it out and have a look at it, and then approximately another 1k to fix the problem.

She almost accepted that too but at the last second she rang me and told me before I told her that to find out the problem they just need to plug in a reader up under the dash and get the fault codes. In the end it was just low on transmission fluid and cost $55 to fix.

Mate, if you knew the amout of people who have been told that their trans were stuffed and then paid for a new trans only to find that the ECU was soaked, you would be shocked

Have seen one where the lady was told trans was stuffed, she took the car in, they wrapped the ecu in plastic like you did and then gave her the car back with the 2500 bill lol

bloody eck.... lots of horror stories there..... still belies belief that they would put a computer under the heater unit.... guess they were counting on lots of people needing new computers/gearboxes......
