Forget the DIY guide theres no need to remove all that.
Just unclip the vents above the radio by pulling it towards you
Then pull out the ash tray and unclip the bottom section by pulling that towards you
Neither of these parts will come all the way out but they don't need to you only need to get to the screws at the top and bottom of the console section where the radio is
Do it this way and you'll have it out in 5mins

Yeah only a 4 set process.
1: Put the car in Neutral ( if its an Auto ), open up the centre console - the bit you rest your elbow on - and lift the rear of the decorative cover for the centre. It is only held in by clips on boths sides and will not break if you lift it from the back first.
2: Take out ash try and cig lighters. GENTLY pull this bottom bit out - it is only held in the decorative centre cover ( now removed ) and 2 clips in the top corners. It will pop out, disconnect the cig lighter.
3: Now all the is left is the Center facia itself. GENTLY pull it from the bottom up - this only has 4 clips, 1 in each corner. You may need a small flat head screw driver to move the air vents out of the way but I have never had to remove them. Once out a little bit ( 5cm or so ), from the top, you will need undo 2 screws to separate the A/C section - which you will leave there, then once out you will only need to disconnect the hazard lights.
4: Now you will see 4 exposed screws holding in the middle section, un-screw and replace headunit. Does only take 10mins if you are really careful.

I'm a bit confused about this bit, what clips on the centre facia are you talking about? When I replaced my deck a while back, I took off the bottom console, the ashtray surround, and pulled the vents out enough to get to the top screws and then the whole centre bit just came out, or are the climate (what I have) surrounds different and just have the screws?

Yeah, manual a/c control and climate control fascias are different. I've done both, climate control ones sooo much easier, lol. But yeah, 2 screws and hazard light plug for manual and, if memory serves, just a hose for interior temp sensor on climate control.
