hey guys i recently discovered my horn and cruise control are not working. this all happened either because of my new sound system install. or the removal of my car alarm. anyone come across the same problem before?

have you checked the fuse?
i cant see how your sound system would make the horn and cruise stop working
for the cruise i would check the black hose ontop of the throttle body
does the light come on at all?
maybe when your alarm was taken out someone bumped a wire or something?

This sounds like a fuse problem. Is the SRS light on?

Already seen in bro lol

But our problems began when we removed the old steering wheel and put the VRX one on, pretty sure we broke something in the dark. But I need to check my fuses and such as well.

One way of checking, does the green 'CRUISE' light still come on? That might be an indication of something (not sure what) but mine still does, there is just no talking between the wheel and the rest of the car for me.

always check your fuses first
the cc ecu is located near the radio so you may have blown the fuse during install....accidents happen
the compact relays used on the magna (and most modern cars) are really crappy so you could try swapping the horn relay for another relay to eliminate that as a cause

Hi,
you should also check that all your brake lights are working.
Had this problem on my dad's TJ, found he had a brake light out, replaced the globe, all good.

Mate, I am in Ringwood East

Guys, enough of the guesses please, stop lights will NOT stop the horn also working.

While the advise is great please to save making a long thread with the same suggestion repeated over and over and still being wrong look at the issue and you can then deduct a theory from there

Keiran was spot on, there is a clock spring behind the steering wheel, this is the only thing that could cause both systems to crash as they are independant systems. Either it is faulty or not plugged in.

My offer still stands if you want to drop over, I assume that being a TF it does not have a doggy bag? There are 2 differnt styles of clock spring for the TF series and you will need to ensure you get the correct one

Hey guys, haven't really been on here much so i guess you could say i'm fairly new. Hows it going anyways, my names stuart... I've been having the same sort of problem as TF and Kieran, but my cruise control works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. The light comes up when i press the button on, i just can't set it sometimes. This started when i noticed that the anti lock indication on the top right corner of my speedo was lighting up after i had been driving for a little while of so, this too doesnt happen all the time. It lights up when i'm starting the car and the steering wheel unlocks and then goes off and it's not locking the steering wheel up while i'm driving when it comes back on after a while (Thank *******). So i kind of think my problem has something to do with that seeing as they started around the same time, anyways i'm getting it serviced tomorrow so i'll let you know if they find out whats wrong with it. Cheers

Got my car back today, problems solved. Apparently the sensors for the cruise control and anti lock were blocked with gunk from the breaks seeing as they are in close proximity to them, might help you out with your cruise controll issues...

Mate, not sure what crap mechanic you use but the cruse and ABS has no interaction at all. The sensor rings on the wheels are only for the ABS and not the Cruise

I have seen filthy sensors cause ABS warning issues but has nothing to do with the cruise

Apparrently the cruise controll on my car is an after market one, so i do infact have two sets of sensors, a set for the ABS and a set for the Cruise, i'm sorry if i confused you to start with but i had no idea that it was an after market one at the time and you must have misunderstood me when i was talking about the sensors for the ABS and the Cruise because i didn't mean that they were both from the same sensor...

not sure if this question has been resolved yet but as madmagna said its the clock spring thats the prob. i accidently pulled my clock spring out when i was removing my wheel and i had the exact same prob. easy as piss to fix tho. all you have to do is remove the steering wheel again and there should be a circular piece of rubber (i think its rubber) with metal spindles on the inside. just pop that back in properly so that it fits firmly and u should be set. make sure none of the spindles are broken tho coz then u could have troubles.
hope that helps.

Hi gang..

I'm looking for some help. My cruise doesn't work (the light does come on, but it doesn't engage) and my horn is also not working.

I have read in depth the above comments, ran through the whole process (disconnected battery, remove screws, remove & unplug airbag, undo bolt, remove wheel...) but I've become unstuck where (i think) the clockspring is. I'm assuming it is in the little black circular thingy with the aligning markers... but it says on this thing that it isn't a servicable unit.

Should I not pull it apart and try to buy a replacment unit it from a Mitsu dealer?

Thanks...

The clock spring is an assy and you remove a couple screws and it will come off

When installed you then have to wind gently all the way clockwise, then anti clockwise 3/4 turn until the wires are at the bottom, then 3 more complete turns anti clockwise

I have second hand clock springs here, they are $60 plus post

First before you go off and start spending, put the whole lot back together and then run a few tests, generally if the clock spring is shagged, your cruise light will not come on in the first place as the clock spring is also responsible for that signal and the SRS light would be on as well as the airbag would not be connected to the srs ecu

SLOW POST- not that relevant now: POST ABOVE FROM MADMAGNA SORTS IT>

I've never gotten up close and personal with one but 52B in the W/shop manuals has a good picture. Pretty much means not repairable, if faulty or suspect-replace. I'd try and source one from a wreck or be prepared for a rude shock from your local Dealer because I reckon they'd be ridiculously priced.

Might be better getting someone qualified since this is part of the SRS. If you do need a new genuine one, FYI $150-200 USD as a guide if the part numbers match our models.

Hi everyone... So when i had the TJ in getting serviced I asked them to look at the Cruise and horn. Turns out the fuse was blown... I did check these earlier however, but only a visual inspection.

So note to those with the same problem as above - make sure you replace the fuses with brand new ones before you pull stuff apart... These mini fuses can be blown even though they look good.

If it is the horn and the cruise with issues, I would be looking at the clockspring behind the steering wheel. That is one area both items share.
