I have a 2002 TJ Ralliart to which i sold the interior to make way for a 2004 TL GTVi Verada interior (black leather).

Here is the link : http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=270425021045

The interior arrived from Melbourne (i'm in Sydney) and all fitted up perfectly except for the drivers seat.

It seems that the car it came out of must have been in an accident and the rails are skewed and have been drilled out at the bolt holes to make it fit the TH Magna it came out of.

All the electrics on the seat work but the problem i am having is only two bolt holes line up and i can't get the seat into the Ralliart.

I called Mitsubishi to get a quote for a new seat frame and it was $1000 so that's not an option.

Is there any way i can get the frame off another 3rd Gen seat and swap the seats over so i can get this leather seat into my car ?

It looks as though the rails may be different on all 3rd Gen seats so not sure which ones will substitute.

Either that or is there any other way to get the seat in ?

I'd hate to think i have just blown big money on a seat that doesn't fit thanks to a lying seller on eBay.

How far "out" with the other two bolt holes are we talking here?

I can buy a second hand frame off another 3rd Gen seat from the wreckers but it looks to be different to the one that is coming off the seat i already have so it won't fit.

The two holes that don't line up are only marginal but drilling them out any further is going to be a safety hazard when it looks like they have already been hacked at.

Is there no flex in the existing frame to make it fit without drilling? That said, if it has been hacked at, I think I would be looking at replacing the frame anyway. Don't ***k around with your safety! Not worth it.

I remember reading somewhere here that the TL\TW seat rails were different to the earlier ones, maybe try getting a stock TL seat for the rails. Also what are you doing about the airbags in the seats? Think it's illegal to have them so you'll need to take em out and block the hole or something. The car I got my leather out of was T-boned hard and the drivers seat rails were off as well, just swapped em over from the old seats, but they were both TJs.

Thanks, i'll have to try a TL rail then if i can find one from a wrecker.

Will it matter if it comes from a standard TL and this is a Verada seat with the electric adjustments ?

Not too sure about the airbag, i'll have to check that out as i have heard it's fine and i have heard that it isn't.

First priority is to get the seat in first.

There's a guy up here that wrecks magnas, he's on ebay as well, "Lancercity", last time I was there he had a few TL's and there was a set of seats just sitting out in the rain. Probably can be a TL rail as all TL onwards had power drivers seats anyways.

I heard that with the changes to the TL/W model, there were a raft of changes and amongst those was moving the seat mounting points inwards to allow for better crash protection and the room for the side air bag....getting a TL bracket may not solve your problem....will the rails from your TJ change over....???

I have had a look at a couple of TJ Seats and they do not look to be the same.

The only way to tell for sure is to get the seat diagram from Mitsubishi but i don't have the VIN number to give them.

These seats supposedly fit straight into the other guys TH Magna which is why i thought they would be a straight fit into mine, maybe that's why they have previously been hacked at.

I thought maybe a KJ Verada or TJ Sports etc but without a seating diagram, it would be hard to tell.

Bolt pattern was definately the same from TE-TJ2, so if they fit a TH, they *should* fit...

That was my understanding as well and although the seats are out of a KL, the guy said he had them in his TH but i think that was a lie and going by the way the rails have been hacked at, he has had a good go at it.

So, even if i change the rails to TL rails (which by the sounds of it are the only ones that will fit this seat), it won't go into a TJ at all ?

KJ VIN (if that helps)

VIN (Vehicle Identification Number):
6MMKJ8H421T003249

Engine Number:
6G74M212906

As far as I know, TR-KJ are all the same..... not sure about TL though sorry

This is the interior i was looking at too... I was less than impressed with the sellers communication. He answered emails (vaguely) but never sent me the high res pics i asked for. I really hope that you haven't been stooged...

That said i cant see why the would change the rails for the last of the 3rd gen series. Do you know anyone with a TL/W you can borrow the seats out of for a test fit?

I am sure someone with a TL will want to pick this up if you cant get it to work.

I have two KS front seats sitting here you can have if you need them mate

They ARE a bolt in job

Thanks Peter.

I have Cybermonkey's drivers seat in there at the moment as he was kind enough to leave it for me when he purchased my Ralliart interior.

I wonder if the frame of the KS seat will fit the TL seat ??

Also, i don't know anyone with a TL, if there is anyone in Sydney who can lend me an hour of their time.........and to trial fit their drivers seat.........it would be appreciated.

Yes, his communication was good and it does look like i was stooged.

I asked for many pics of the seats which were apparently in his TH Magna but never did get them.

I got a TH if you'd like to do a test fit for proof to throw back at him?

Well you are welcome to the bracket if you want it/need it mate.
