OK so if you have read my members machine thread - http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67654
you will notice I have been trying to get my car to sound better. After a new muffler and the resonator taken out it sounds pretty bad.....
So... I've been thinking. If I was to buy a cannon off ebay cheap (well could only find this muffler), like this one - http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NEW-Stainless-Steel-3-Single-Exhaust-37-cm-Car-Muffler_W0QQitemZ250472086948QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU _Car_Parts_Accessories?hash=item3a514cbda4&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A1|66%3A2|39%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50
Do you think Carline would replace it even though I didn't get it from them and would they give me the muffler to sell off? Because they installed this muffler about 1 month ago for $240 so i don't to chuck it away of for them to keep it.
Thanks,
Cuffy

Oh and I would need a cut out in my rear bumper. Do they do that and how much?

IMO,if a muffler sounds bad, forget a cannon, not enough material in them to do any decent muffling, and always seem to worsen the "billy goat shitting in a tin sound",my suggestion is to fit as big as you can centre muffler or resonator you canto get rid of the typical V6 rasp and buzzing sound, but like ive found out,its very hard to get them to sound any good, even with propper mufflers and resonators

If your going for a cannon, at least get a good one :P These cheap ones off eBay would be no better than a coffee tin.

But if you write Type R on the side it adds 50kW?
But srzsly, I'm pretty sure RalliartGal's TW has a cannon from autobahn on it. It actually sounds pretty decent.

For science sake don't get a cannon. Cannons are for Subarus, Lancers and for guys who say 'bro' and 'fully' excessively (not a racial stereo-type I've met people of all backgrounds who speak in this way)

Magna's can sound nice with a decent quality cannon though, that said... same with a decent muffler.

And then I could sell it off on here maybe? Would I get much for it?

Slick knows what a good cannon sounds like, he's got my old 2nd gen one :D,
Spend a decent amount of money on your 3rd gen exhaust... Lugo has a great sounding car, it costs alot more... but worth it in the long run.

After a bit of searching on here, I'm thinking of maybe buying a bolt on Lukey for around $200????
and then see if a mechanic can de weld the old muffler and maybe put a cutout in the rear bumper, and then I could just fit the exhaust myself?
What do you think?

Oh and then sell the other muffler as it's only around 1 month old

if you're not after a lot of noise then that's a good choice, the sports/vrx mufflers are still fairly quiet and have a fairly subtle note to them

So you think it will work if it just gets de-welded and then I can just bolt the new one on?

i have a similar canon on my car (2.5" input, 3.5" output, 4"diameter) . i got it because its small enough to tuck under the car and not hang down like a boyracer one! it sounds awesome!!, no raspyness, not buzzing, and no drone at all when cruising at 100-120kms, cant hear it unless i floor it at those speeds. it is loud though at 50kms, cruising its fine but when you accelerate, it is loud as your in town and it echos off buildings etc. i love the sound, its really deep and doesnt get at all "tinny" at high revs. mine will differ to yours in that i have gutted my cat converter (for the eco police-legal in NZ!) so its strait through from engine to tip. cant say how that would affect sound. sounds almost identical to a skyline witha bigbore at idle. i have the standard resonaters still. but yeah, theres no drone at cruising speeds, and i did notice a gain in power across the rev range, no doubt about it. man, when i floor it and it chops down the sound is awesome!!!

I had Pacemakers, 2.5" Exhaust, 12" resonator (hotdog) in the middle and a Powerflow Muffler on my old Ralliart and it sounded like this...

mine sounds alot deeper than your soundclip, and doesnt lose the sound at higher revs. although playback on computer speakers does make them sound different, my car on my soundclip sounds higher tone than it is. i suppose it depends what your after. I used the canon as i wanted strait through all the way and i liked the deep sound of the V^. again no idea how it would sound with the cat in place, im sure it would muffle the sound a bit. my canon was cheap ( i won it on trademe for $32 in a $1 reserve auction, although most go for $100-$150) but it is well made and has a mix of stainless steel wool and glass fibre in it.

I have a cannon on my TR 4cyl and I really like the way it sounds, I have a nice deepish note, not that tinny ricebox noise. Heaps of people tell me my car sounds tough, and I once had an asian guy ask me if Id put a V8 it my car :roflwtf:
It's fairly quiet when I'm just cruising, but when I drop down a gear and plant my foot it roars. Probably loudest from about 2500-4500rpm.
Loud cars aren't for everyone, but I'm young and I like it.
Sounds heaps better than my mate's R33 GTS, and plenty of people agree :-P

mufflers dont bolt on mate, as afar as i know, i think most exhaust shops would charge about $100 to fit a muffler.......either one of those two mufflers will give a nice not! :)

ahh bugger, thought lukeys bolted on.
Can a mechanic fit it instead? because I'm sick of dealing with Carline.

yeah, though you should ask him if he can fit it, as not all mechanics can weld........

Just ask your mechanic if he can do it, some will be able to, others won't.
Also depends on how you want it done, if you want pipes bent up for it they may not be able to, if its just cutting and welding they should be ok with it.
I did mine, I just cut the stock muffler out and welded a straight pipe between the new muffler and the old pipe/flange. I assembled the pieces on the car (put it on a hoist to get under it) and got my dad to hold it while i tacked it up. Then took it off and finished welding it up on the bench, and checked it to make sure the welds didn't leak before i put it back on the car. I cut the little brackets off the old muffler and welded a flat plate to one, and used big hose clamps to fit it (so i could move it around if i needed to).
Then just bolted it up and tightened the clamps down, and drove it out of the shop.
Kind of handy when your dad's a mechanic, he does motorbikes, but they do cars there too.

The AL4-5597 is bolt up so unless the adjusted the rear flange you could just order one of them for $200, unbolt old muffler and sell it as bolt replacement to someone else on here.

yours sounds ok i guess...... diciples is better lol
you have to hear it in real life, ALOT deeper, ha ha and mines better because i have no restrictions at all between engine and tip!! i love NZ, bye bye cat converter.

pretty sure it would have already been mentioned, but put a resonator back in,.... high-flow, stock, it doesn't matter. the magna V6 sounds like a civic without one!

1st thing, you got screwed on the price of your rear muffler - unless it's titanium.
2nd, get a resonator - not a hotdog. If you actually notice a power loss in a natmo car with 110 at the treads then the Earth's spinning probably makes you giddy.
3rd, why would you want to put a cannon on anything  Except a pirate ship.......
All the redback systems installed at Dad's shop have sounded pretty respectful. Even a rear muff swap to something straight thru with a LOT of glasspacking will deepen your tune up. Avoid anything with a resonance chamber - you'll have migraines.
Remember that the mods you do to your car now will still be there when you're older and wiser.

Yeah I'm pretty sure they ripped me off on my rear muffler.
I just got the resonator taken out?? It made it louder. But louder in the sense that its a really really pissy tinny sound. I hate getting it past 2000 RPM lol.
Yeah I've scrapped the cannon idea. Now just looking at a good sounding rear muffler.

Sux knowing you got screwed, but when you're there and want it done whats a couple of bucks hey?
Get a reso put back in and it'll return your life to normal, promise ;)
You can then source a smaller bodied rear muff and get a touch more note from it without rasp or drone.

Ok well after all this I'm back to square one. On the weekend I drove around in a mates lancer with a hefty cannon which he got off ebay for $100 and fitted for $70.
A lot of people on here don't like cannons and I don't think it would look that good on a magna, but his car sounded sweet, awesome sound coming out of it, so still unsure.
Maybe get a cannon on for around 170 and then sell off the old muffler for a bit?

:iough:. If you like the sound of a tiny capacity N/A engine with a muffler that's way too big, then a cannon is probably for you.
I would personally just get a nice sounding Powerflow or Magnaflow muffler or something. They're a lot cheaper and will sound a lot better.
