I've been looking around for new tyres, i'm sick of getting the same old MAXXIS, Hancooks and Bridgestones.
I've come across Zeetex UHP102. I've been told they are made in the same factory as pirelli.

Dunno bout those.
But on my 17's I had Kuhmo Ecsta SPT's. Awesome grip all the time and great for the $165/tyre price.
Would have got them on my 20"s but at that size the price escalated to $400 each

Sounds pretty normal for an aftermarket staggered fitment rim on a falcon

... which are Pirelli P-Zero Rossos at US$546/corner. Because you needed to know.

Good bang for-buck tyres I can recomend based on personal experience:
Federal 595
Maxxis MA-Z1 (don't confuse with the MA-V1s, which I'm not a fan of)
Unlike most cheaper tyres, both are a nice soft compound that grip very well for a regular street tyre.
The federals seem to have an unusually stiff sidewall for a street tyre, which is nice.
The MA-Z1s are exceptional in the wet, definantely a good option if that's important to you.

Michael, as your friend, I am asking you to please not put Zeetex or WanLi (LingLong, Nankang, Clear etc) tyres on your car.
+1 to the Federal 595s.

There nickname isnt crapkangs for nothing. I guess anything is better than retreads but if ya have a car with a bit of power, why skimp and buy cheap ass tyres.....
I cant work out why people would spend a sh*tload of $$$ on big bling rims and then buy the cheapest tyres possible.

I'm sorry mate, but you might think they're fine - they simply aren't. They're cheap Chinese tyres made with sub standard compounds and have a terrible tread pattern.
I honestly don't see why people skimp on tyres - they're the most important thing on your car!
This isn't just directed at you perry, but everyone in general.

Fine isn't a word I'd like to use to describe the tyres on my car. To me "fine" means ok, passable, average.
I'm not happy with having just ok, passable or average tyres which means the next set of tyres I get will be described as nothing less than great.

Had Wanli on my Commonhore when i bought the car (20" rims) and they were terrible. Glad i got rid of them. I've now got Nexen and they are crap too but def better than Wanli. Once these are gone will go back to Maxxis which were great on my Rada.

Hey, those are my tyres. I didn't think that i would see anyone on these forums talking about my tyres! I was wondering what ppl thought about them. I have newish ones on the front paired with some other brand on the back. Obviously when it came to sell my car they only needed new ones on the front.
I was toying with the idea of having these ones put on the back, and getting newies for the front, now i feel more comfortable with this idea.
They are pretty good tyres, no squealing when cornering, hard to wheel spin in the dry (not that i try that hard), although you need to be conscious of too much right foot in the rain. They are the definition of directional tyres, i can take photos if you like. The only thing that i dont like is they kinda buldge out from the rim (as opposed to the bridgestones on the back that are the same dimensions) so it kind of makes the tyre look like its always kinda flat.

Really, I understand that tyres are expensive, but dont overdo how cheap you will go with them, I did lots of research before I bought a set for mine and while they are not Bridgestones or Michelins, they are Hankooks, which good. Mind you they were still $190/tyre.. compared to $320 for top of the range bridgies or michhies. Well for my driving style it is at least. I push it around corners once in a while but am pretty abiding otherwise. If you are an enthusiastic driver and plan to abuse the tyres, then please dont play with your life. Otherwise, if you are happy with the road noise and slight misperformance, then get them. The Cheap Wan Li tyres that is. might as well go second hand or retreads.

I've picked up on this too. I've noticed the 225/50/17 feds I have are as wide if not wider than other 235mm tyres I have. I belive it is the extra width that causes the bulging if your rim width is on the small side.
Now I'm running the 225 feds on a 8" wide rim, and the sidewall sits nice and flat, while on my old 7" wide rims they bulged noticeably.

i have got Goodyear Eagle LS2000 and would rate them above my previously preferred Bridgestone Grid II's which i got 70000km out of. These have done about 45000km and are at half tread and handle the best i have had in the wet(and dry) Payoff tho is they are starting to get noisy. Would get them again.

I live in the Dandenong Ranges and grip is the No 1 concern for me. I have had a TR and now my TL and Yokie C Drives are miles ahead of anything else I have had on tem (including Turanza's, Dragons, P5).
Downside is the longevity is only around 30,000 km but I only average 10,000 km a year so 3 years is fine by me

Those tyres you mention are all standard street tyres. Still leagues behind performance tyres already mentioned in this thread.

I wasn't aware the thread stated exclusively performance tyres.
Apologies if my post was uninformed but I doubt I am the only Magna owner accessing this site who does not run performance tyres.

Why so defensive? This thread isn't about performance tyres, but you mentioned in your previous post that grip is your number one concern. I thought a good performance tyre would be high on your list?

I will clarify for you Disciple
My number 1 concern is grip but as I am running a bog standard ES with 15" rims performance tyres are overkill in my situation
As I said before I think the C Drives are great bang for buck

I don't run performance tyres on my Magna either mate. I went with Bridgestone Potenza ER300 in 225/55/16. They're pretty good for what they are.

I just purchased a set of 4 Maxxis M-35's..
About $210 Fitted and balanced each but they are quiet, very grippy (so far) and hold corners better than the Falkens that came off.
I used to run Falken Z-326's and Z-329's and loved both of those too (But they've been deleted from the Falken range.) I was/am a big Falken fan.
I used to have Nankangs on my old 93 GSR Lancer and loved them.... in a straight line..
They cornered ok... but when pushed the sidewalls had bugger all stiffness.

Speaking of Falkens, I just ordered 4 today as the 452 series is on special @ 339 each.
The two I'm replacing have done 55 000km
The other pair I'll put in the garage for later.

Will be interested to hear how they go. Seem like a pretty decent tyre. They are not directional so may not be quite as good as Victra Z-1 in the wet. What size for $210 and where from?

Thinking of either getting Falken 452 or Maxxis MA-Z1 next when the current Nexen tyres on my Commonhore run out. I swear the Nexen are next in line to kill me with the all the crapness they possess.

225/50R17 (series 2 VR-X size) they are also a "w" rated tyre.
Jax Tyres in Merrylands.
The M-35's have "outside" printed on each tyre. technically not directional...
What are the Victra's worth?? I never got to ask.

OK thanks. $210 not too bad for 225/50 x 17. They are an assymetric tread so are marked "outside". The idea being to give more tread area on outside shoulder for cornering loads as the car rolls. Some also have groove designs that don't close up when squeezed by cornering loads so as to improve water drainage.
Don't think the Victra MA-Z1 is available in 225/50 x 17. 215/55 x 17 are about $180.
Cheers,
Alan
