If you are going to change the timing belt, A good idea is to change the water pump to. As If you have to change later the belt has to come off.. Just an idea

Defiantly, You'd be stupid not to! I'd also look into doing your cap and rotor too, for piece of mind. while this is getting done ask your mechanic to clean out your PCV valve, and the breather tube in the rocker covers (if they are coming off) as its such a small hole it tends to get gunked up due to lack of cleaning. I would also carby clean the TB and intake manifold while its all off.
check your power steering rack boots (commonly rooted) and as said check the CV boots and CV's themselves. A general whole inspection of the car is a good idea, might be a costly service though :P

Its also a good idea if ur getting that done to have the oil and coolant system, cleaned,
you can do this ur self, either buy some flushing agents, or if u want put a .5-1 litre of ATF in ur oil and run it for a few clicks.
Atf is basically a detergent and cleans oil passages well.

Depending on your quote, you can always come for a drive to Vic and get me to do this for you
You need to do the following
Plugs
Timing belt, seals and tensioner
Oil - Filter
Tans flush
Brake fluid flush
Coolant flush
Fuel Filter
Air Filter
Other bits to check, oil leaks, stem seals are easy to do now if they are needed, cap and bitton for wear, drive shafts, pads, rotors, handbrake adjustment, ball joints, tie rods, rack boots, underbody damage, exhaust faults, tyres, suspension in particular dampers leaking etc, lights working and alligned, seat belts locking and latching etc etc

I would suggest to invest in a pully kit as well. Also do the tranny service if you haven't done it for a while.

cam and crank seals are common to be leaking if your doing a timming belt, my water pump was fine, I would only change it if it was showing signs of leaking
I bought a gen mits value selection timming kit and it had all the pulleys, belt, seals for half the price of puting the kit together

These are the pullies that help the timing belt to function. Ask your mechanic/dealer/parts place about this as they will know what you mean. Best $50 bucks I spent. Mine were very bad.

Mitsu spent thousands designing the tensioning system, how does this $50 kit make it better? SOHC 12v's have no problems with timing belts anyway....

When yours are corroded due to age... Think about the savings on labour etc as well.

The timing tensioner pulley should always be changed when you do the belt
While there are 2 schools of thought on this and to be honest I am yet to see one totally fail, it is cheap insurance while the whole lot is apart and is not that expensive when included in the belt kit

I have a feeling Intralot was referring to the external drive belts outside the timing covers, cos he also suggested gearbox job while you are at it (so suggestions were not confined to the timing belt job only).
In my case, Mal did a VERY overdue Timing belt for me (including all the timing belt pulleys in the kit) and pointed-out that an idler pulley for external drive belts was also on the way out. (I've got a replacement in the boot, Mal - just haven't got it on yet!).

No I was suggesting the pullies Mal was referring too. I suggested a tranny service as most cars are due every 40,000 and 200,000 is an interval they are due on.
