Hey all,

Well dad walks into my room this morning complaining the garage smells like engine coolant .... Sure enough there is coolant leaking from what looks to be the water pump, its on the same side of the engine as all the belts. If you are looking at the belts from the front then it would be leaking in the lower/mid area on the left side. The coolant doesn't start leaking until about 2 mins after the engine is started .... What do you think?

I have booked it in to get it fixed on monday, $572 .... I guess there goes my tax return :(

mate if your timing belt is due to be done soon i'd be getting it done at the same time to save on labour

I've done 145,000kms Timing Belt was done at like 100,000kms

does $572 sound like a decent price, I also got quoted $640 from somewhere else ....

Do you actually have to take the timing belt off to replace the water pump?

Yeah timing belt comes off to do the water pump. You might as well get the TBelt done at the same time.

This is perhaps why its recommended to do the water pump at the same time as the timing belt - as when you're doing the timing belt, there's bugger all to do to change the waterpump, so you mainly pay just for the part, and not labour.
