Hi Everyone,

This is purely to get opinion of people who had LSD installed. I estimate it would cost about 2gs minimum to get done if you buy brand new differential.

If anyone could share before & after experiences that would be great. All i want to know is it really that much easier to launch the car off the mark with it. Up to this stage i have done all i could without LSD, 235 tyres, upgraded shocks, droping the front to further increase weight to the front wheels.

Having driven a Ralliart manual recently the wheel spin was minimal even when launching hard. It was dry weather, but it seemed to work.

ive owned 3 x non LSD 3rd gen's and 2 x magna ralliarts

honestly, out of all the features of the ralliart magna the LSD is by far the best...

transforms the car in my opinion..

would i spend 2k on a 6k magna to put a LSD in? no i wouldnt..

I replaced my open diff with with a Quaife helical unit (quite similar to what's in the ralliart magna) quite a while ago now. Don't expect much if any change from ~$3000 including fitting, unless you are doing it yourself, or at least R&R'ing the gearbox.

In my case I feel it was money very well spent, as I track my car regularly, and for circuit racing the difference is enormous compared to the open diff. (not just in terms of lap times, but how it is to drive).

Yes it does help noticeably in getting off the line too.

Would I bother putting an LSD in a magna if it's not going to see regular track time? Probably not (unless I could do it on the cheap). But it's up to you.

Combine an LSD with a well though-out suspension setup, and you'll be amazed what you can do with a fwd platform in terms of handling. For example on the track my car tends to oversteer on turn-in, is 'steerable' on the throttle, and then will only understeer on power-down if you are really stupid with the throttle. Pretty much no resemblance to the chronically understeering pig it (and 99% of fwds) are.

However, If you want a fwd magna to handle well and get off the line well, be prepared to to run 300lbs+ springs at both ends. This does call for a fairly significant sacrifice in ride compliance.

Nope. Only fwd magna that ever came with a factory LSD were the manual ralliarts.
