G'day gents,

I have a 97 TF which I recently bought. I did have a tranny service done about a month ago.

The issue that I am facing is that the engine flares a little bit when changing from second to third gear. (about 200 - 300 rpm ) I did a search but my issue is a bit more peculiar. This flaring only happens when the engine is cold. Once it has warmed up, it goes away. It doesn't thump when it downshifts as well. The atf if red and a check with the shop confirms that he used mitsui fluid. I have checked the level and it seems fine.

I had this happen on a previous car and it was not good news. I was thinking of putting in Lucas Slip Stop to solve this issue.

Thoughts?

What do you guys think could be the issue?

If the fluid is nice and red, maybe just do the battery disconnect and relearn proceedure to see that helps, though only happening when cold is weird

Dremen,

Try the battery disconnect - and search in these forums for the transmission re-learn procedure, there were a couple of versions but one had the scanned Mitsi Service Bulletin which detailed the complete procedure. This certainly cannot hurt.

I'd suggest searching for the "Workshop Manual" thread too, there is no manual linked for the TE or TF specifically (shame) but download the PDF for a TH and have a read of the auto-trans chapter - it has troubleshooting sections which lead from symptoms through a number of diagnostic procedures (as used by Mitsi service doods). It might have details of what you experience, and suggest causes. At worst, you'll know a heap more about your transmission which can only help if you need professional involvement.
