Hi All
I have as the title says a TS V6 5 speed. It was running a little rough for about 600km, missing under load. Anyway driving along the Freeway @ 110, she just died. Since then I have pulled the likely suspects out and have determined that I need a new rotor, dizzy cap and coil. I think these item were causing it to run rough, however upon inspection of the computer, I see that there is a couple of capacitors in the middle of the board which have leaked(i think). Anyways anyone know if these are the ones for this symptom? I dont want to replace all this stuff and it blows another ecu...
Thanks
John

Electronics had a rough patch a while ago with capacitors not up to scratch - if the endcap with the "X" on it has bulged, replace it/them. Cheap, get them from am electronics store like Dick Smith. Worth investing in a cheap soldering iron as a repair shop will charge an arm and a leg for a recon ECU. Make sure you get the polarity right. Match the capacitance with the old one, but you can go higher in the voltage and temperature marked on the old capacitors. My 4 cyl TS ran rough, the coil died for the second time in 3 years. I checked the values on the power transistor and they were low. Rather than buying a new coil like I did the first time, get one from the wreckers complete with the power transistor. My dying coil problem has not come back, and the car runs smoother than ever.

First time I was checking the ignition timing and it just died. I suspected the ECU, pulled it and checked the capacitors, but they were ok. Had the ECU checked by a workshop. All ok. Brought the distributor, coil and transistor in and the coil was stuffed. Second time around it just wouldn't start after sitting around for a few months while the clutch was replaced. Went off to the wreckers, replaced the coil and transistor and off it went.

OK, I have/had tried all but new cap and rotor with no luck(I have a auto TS also). I didnt try the computer because I didnt want to kill the working one. I will have a crack at replacing the capacitors as really I have nothing to loose. Thanks Madmax.
