View Full Version : TS Clutch Replacement
On the way to get new tyres for the magna , I noticed that the clutch slips a little under heavy load or after a quick shift. I got my dad (who is an ex-mechanic) to take it for a test drive and he agrees with me that the clutch is slipping a little. He reackons I got anywhere from 4 weeks to a couple of months before it becomes a problem. So now I have to think about getting the clutch replaced, and I got a couple of questions:
1. Are TS clutches hard to come by?
2. How much $$$ am I looking at here for a replacement?
It's done 127,000Klms and the next service is at 130,000Klms, so I got a bit of time to think about this. The car is driveable, but I don't know for how long. Anyone here had thier clutch done?
sorry for the double post, but I really need info on this one.

Killbilly grabbed an uprated clutch from RPW. I think he says it's a gem. It's cheaper them the Mitsu unit I think. Mitsu quote around a grand for parts and labour as it's tricky / time consuming due to the FWD layout.

It's a great unit, You can contact RPM (no idea on site or numbers sorry) as they make high performance clutch kits and it is cheaper than RPW. Or Exedy (formerly Daikin) as they make clutch kits too: http://www.exedy.com.au/products.asp The single plate sports kit is what you'd need, and unfortunately it's under construction on the site...but they have contact details.

I can't remember exactly how much my standard Daikin clutch and pressure plate was, but it was under $200 I am quite sure, and I was told it was the same as a Magna one, maybe a 4cyl TE, but hey had them in stock, which was great. I fitted mine while changing the engine, so it was easy. Doing it on the car would be significantly harder, and without the right lifting equipment for the gearbox, I wouldn't recommend it. Fitting should be about $2-300. While you are at it, you could also get your CVs reconditioned if they need it, as it won't cost you any more labour in getting them out and in, as that has to happen to get your gearbox out, to get to your clutch.

I can get exedy/daikin clutches if you live near penrith. I wont be able to get you a discount...but at the very least I can get you a price and I know we stock quite a few of them as I put them on the shelves ;)
Thanks for the offer KB, but I'm top end of NSW (pretty close to Byron :D ). I Took it down to the local mechanic and it's going to be all sorted soonish.
EDIT: Whoops, prev. post made it sound like I'd all ready had it done
