Just a question to the guys that have piggybacks installed in their cars.Where did you mount it and splice the factory loom? I was going to do a stealthy install under the dash until I realized, flicking through the workshop manual ,that the ECU is at the front of the car!( I dunno but isn't that completely stupid?the first thing to go in a front end smash i reckon) Anyway, now i'm think'n its easier to be installed in the engine bay!

Mines in the passenger side kick panel & cables routed through the inner guard & pops out right at the ecu.

Thanks Foozr. Are the cables/splicing easy to see? Through the inner guard you mean between the plastic one yes?I guess that would be pretty stealthy then, really wanted to keep the splices etc well away from view!

I'll take a pic of mine in the next day or so. It's located in the engine bay, passenger side.

If you have a look at the looms behind the ecu they are all taped with black tape. The piggyback loom is enclosed in a black sheath & the joints end up taped over in the same position as the factory loom taping if that makes sense. So you can't see the joins.

Through the passenger guard, under the wheel arch and into the left hand side of the glovebox for the wiring.
The ECU also sits under the dash on the passenger side of the glovebox.
there is a cutout under the dash there for tight access.

I know that I have probably asked this before, but what kind of gains in economy can you expect out of a piggy back. Please post some figures if you have them. I dont think that mine is too bad in standard trim so far (11.7L/100km towing a fully laden camper trailer 3 up in 38 degree heat sitting on the speed limit except for some hills!) but am always chasing better. Is it true that you will only notice a difference under heavier throttle applications?

Thanks mate.
I now have a ChipTorque Xede, brought from witewalzs last night.
Will be teeing up with Steve Knight to have it fitted & tuned sometime in the next few weeks, when I can get a day off work.
Just wondering what the black plastic cover/box (with a single bolt on top) between the ECU and the Xede is.
I don't have anything like this on my car or in the kit I got from witewalzs.
Is this something extra you had fitted?
Is it vital or just optional?

that is a metal bracket to support the ecu. they come factory with them.
ps they shouldnt be fitted under the bonnet exposed to the elements. should be inside.

Nup, that's not it, I agree all 380s have this metal bracket. I'm talking about the 'black thing' on the passenger side of the ECU, directly underneath the passenger side edge of the metal ECU mounting bracket, sitting in between the ECU & the Xede. On my car there is just a big gap in this spot. I think I can just see a bolt underneath it, surrounded by litter & dirt (Knotched did apologise for the dirty engine bay!).

Mmmm...
ChipTorque has fitted these underbonnet to how many customers?
Maybe they are manufactured to be more weatherproof. There are lights that illuminate for traffic on the CAN which is one of the reasons it's fitted where it is - so codes are easily read during operation.

hmm fair enough. most piggybacks say to fit inside due to not weatherproof etc.

I'd say it was fitted under the bonnet as was mine the first time coz no one could work out how to get cables back inside the cabin lol
It is usually standard practice to install them inside the vehicle.

Just got back from SKR, Steve reckons no problems mounting the Xede in the engine bay next to the stock ECU, and he'll fit it and tune it one day in the next two weeks.
I'm looking to advance the timing by up to 8 degrees across the rev range, from 6 degrees retarded to 2 degrees advanced, but it may vary a bit, I'll leave it in Steve's expert hands. With any luck this will boost power & torque a bit.
Also looking to lean out the AFRs a bit to improve fuel economy and maybe pick up some more power & torque low down.
200kw atw would be great, but I'm not expecting that much, 193 to match Foozr will do me (for now!).

there is a bit of power to be made from leaning the mixtures. mine is currently running 10-1 af ratio (stock). not sure about timing though. i envy bloody manuals. but its cheaper to get a blower rather than manual conversion.

True story!
After all the xmas excitement has died down I'm thinking I will have a play with the water/meth & see if I can crack the 200kw mark.
