Hi all, a quick question regarding 3rd gen mufflers.

I purchased a VR muffler (off a TL VR wagon) in June, hoping to fit it to my TS sedan which needed a new muffler. I figured that the Sports/VRX mufflers would be the wisest choice in terms of not being too loud, but yet having a bit more of a note than the standard muffler.

Basically it didn't fit. The 3rd gen wagon muffler is too long to fit my TS sedan, especially since I have a towbar. Apparently one of the metal bits gets in the way.

Anyhow I put a For Sale thread up a number of weeks back and there's been a bit of interest.

Anyway my question is, are 3rd gen mufflers the same on both sedan & wagon?

ie. If somebody with a 3rd gen sedan was interested in this VR muffler (once again, it came off a TL VR wagon), would it fit?

I understand that the piping leading into the muffler may be different on wagons, but is the actual muffler the same?

I assumed both sedan & wagons used the same muffler, but then I've heard that the wagon mufflers are different.

If anyone can verify or clarify, that would be great.

Thank you very much

pipe work is different between sedan and wagon and again between 3rd and 2nd gen

Ah, thanks for confirming that the pipework is different. I thought so too.

But is the actual muffler itself the same?

......the elusive topic

The muffler in my AWD sedan was the exact same as the on in my TL wagon - different mounting brackets, though.

I replaced the wagon one with a VR (sedan) one.

So yes, they're the same size etc, but the brackets are different. Not hard for an exhaust place to fit.
