How much would it be approx. to replace the valve steam seals on a 1st Gen?
The car smokes on start up and when taking off at the lights.. A few guys have said that its the valve stem seals..
Cheers

I got a quote of $2000 which includes a recon of the engine as well and is done with the engine
still in the car. Replacing just the valve stem seals should be cheaper but not much as its a
pain to do the rear ones.

1st gen = 2.6 4cyl so should be a lot cheaper, maybe get an exchange head. purple smoke rather than grey smoke indicates valve stem seals bec its fuel as well causing the smoke.

ill try to help i dont know much but here goes i think they are little rubber gaskets which sit at the bottem of your valves in the car and over time they just get worn and when they are worn it will allow the oil to drop down below the valves and sit there until you start your car resulting in a cloud of smoke(oil) coming out your exhaust for like 5 sec after you start and if you let the car idle for a bit the same thing will happen when you take off

This is what valves look like (see attached pic) and the stems are the long bits (like a stem on a leaf) the stem seals are little rubber rings that fit on the stems, they stop oil/lubricant from running down into the cylinders as the valves open and close :D
