Hay all

Ever since i braught my magna its seemed to have this wierd problem when turning left when fuel was low and not even going fast the car would surge on and off with its power. Didnt seem bad only when the fuel light was on for a while. Now ive noticed when the fuel light just comes on or even before the fuel light comes on it will surge on and off. Ill have my foot flat no power wat so ever then bang power comes back on. And now today with half a tank off fuel turning a left hand corner again going pritty fast it even cut out then. Its starting to bug me and was wondering what this could be.?

Thanks Kurt

sounds like fuel starvation

Doesn't sound like the traditional fuel starvation where the movement in the tank starves the pump because with half a tank you'd pretty much need to tip the car onto its roof to starve the pump. Does it ever do this turning right?

you can still get fuel starvation when just under half a tank, i've had it acouple of times when throwing the car into a corner
apart from that maybe your fuel filter is alittle blocked?

does it NOT stutter, when you turn left at a more reasonable / safer speed?
try turning the car left on all 4 wheels and let us know if the problem persists :P (<-------joking btw - just in case people dont realise!!!!!!)

sounds like fuel starvation to me - turning left has caused the fuel to slosh over the to right hand side of the tank - away from the pickup, and the fuel pump isnt able to pick up enough, resulting in splutter/stuttering.

2 easy solutions if it IS fuel starvation:
1) put more fuel in the tank, dont let it get too low
2) go a bit slower around a corner when you know your starting to run low on fuel

Ive replaced my fuel filter. Didnt make any difference. But yeah it stutters easily enough around a left hand corner. But yeah on a right hand corner it dosent seem to do it.?

Fuel starvation is pretty common with magnas. When low on fuel I have to take corners a bit more conservatively and can't power through them otherwise yea the power goes then Bang it comes back on. I have had it happen when just under half a tank but yea that was doing some pretty quick and tight cornering.

But wouldnt this be bad for the car cutting in and out like this clogging up injectors stuff like that.?

it wont be the best for it.

the crud in the bottom of the fuel tank will get swirled around and end up in the fuel pump
the filter is there to stop that getting to the fuel rail, but sometimes it does happen..

the worst part about it is that your running the engine lean that short period of time

exactly.

i think the most immediate solution for you Kurt - SLOW DOWN A BIT, when going aroud a left hander.
it will keep fuel up in the engine - and thats a good thing

I have a similar problem in a KJ.
If you turn right quick, the engine cuts out. Looses all power no mater what the revs then comes back once the cornering force has gone.
Doesn't matter how much fuel is in the tank.
Feels a little too severe in cut and then power delivery to be fuel starvation. Very savage being cut totally then a very abrupt power back on.
