View Full Version : Lowering and stuff...
I was just wondering, does it really matter what shocks you put onto a car when your lowering it? my mechanic said my bump stops are rooted and my shocks are "tired" so i read this thing about those munroe gt gas shocks and he said its 550 odd to do the front, 148 for shock and bump stop kit, so 148 * 2 + labor.. i was gonna lower it sooner or later so may as well now since the struts gotta be off for the bump stops to be replaced and replace the struts at the same time and springs too, can anyone get suspension parts for wholesale or something? im after 4 * shocks, 4 * springs and a adjustable rod.

talk to Whiteline, they have a package you're after, not sure about the price you can afford though.
Otherwise, I would divide the prices are follows:
4 king springs ($220)
4 GT GAS Shock/Struts $350
Adjustable Whiteline Strut brace ($180)
total of $750 on parts.

It does matter what shocks you get because they will have an effect on the handling and ride quality of your car. It comes down to what you want out of it. A firmer ride should end up with more direct handling and more feedback on what the car is doing but you'll feel every bump which may not be what you want. Or you can sacrifice some handling feel for a more pliant ride.
I'd tell the suspension guy how you want it to perform and see what he recommends.
Nick what year is your car dude?
1990 TP, im not going to a suspension guy, my mates dad kinda half owns a mechanics shop so we're gonna do it our selves, i think ill just get my srpings reset to save on springs, although for a 4 springs at 220 it aint that bad. The mechanic should be able to get whatever parts wholesale, i just need the parts and part numbers and approx price so i can pay him whatever they cost and so i know how much i need to bring.

Greetings All.
Is it ok to lower your car but not replace the shocks till a later date?
You could I guess. But i think it would be better for the whole suspension if you do it all at the same time.....I know i will. :D

it depends on your shocks... if they are still near new or in really good condition, you could use them... but the standard shocks will bit shot within 10000 km or so...
for an older car (and especially if you don't know the last time the shocks were changed!) i'd go with a new set! i reckon i did some damage to the rest of the car because of the crap shocks  ... no with the GT gas it feels/sounds soooo much better..

road & tyre noise, suspension rattles and sqeaks, that kinda thing.... things that probably shouldn't make a lot of sound to start with pop up when your shocks are on the way out.
what about adjustable coilover suspension like tbutcher has?
