Hey guys..

as stated ive got a smell on startup that smells like im riding my clutch.. but the car is idling.

its only been noticed in the last few days... doesnt seem to happen when driving, but is very prominent on idle.

clutch is a heavy duty exedy under 50k old. it doesnt slip or grab etc, drives fine.

i cant think of what might be causing this odd smell. any suggestions would be great.

forgot to add, its only apparent when the car is warming up, when shes warm there is no issue at all.

cheers, tim

As I know nothing about manuals apart from howto drive them I would suggest maybe checking the colour of the gear box fluid as this may give some idea if the clutch is partially engaged when in neutral.

Other than that, I gues Alan, madmagna or some other 'buff is going to be able to give an answer very soon

yeah check for clutch freeplay at the pedal and at the linkage if youre sure its clutch wearing
if theres zero freeplay it means the clutch is never fully released

by guessing id say theres about 20mm of freeplay, it engages and disengages fine.
no slipping when driving or noise or smell.. its only as of late as well. a clutch drama would be better off the cards atm lol
gearbox fluid is under 5000k old.

might be a small oil leak from the rear engine seal
that has hit the clutch
