G'day everyone,
I'm fairly keen on getting myself a piggyback ECU for my car pretty soon. I was just wondering which brands/model ECU's people have gone for and the rough costs? Is it something I could tune myself or does it have presets stored on it etc etc....evidently I know three parts of sweet stuff all on them so any help would be appreciated! :woot:

Mikey only three 380's have been chipped that I know of. Knotched & myself have both done it here in QLD, he has an Exede & was tuned at Chiptorque Nerang & mine is a Unichip Q tuned at CNJ Motorsport at Underwood. I would recommend either of them as they are both proven to work with the 380 crank trigger. I think mine was $1295 from memory & not sure about Knotched's but I think it was a little dearer. (I'm sure he will set us straight)

Cheers Fooz, did you purchase it from CNJ or should I buy direct from the company then take it to the tuners?

Hey Mikey, I believe TZABOY might still have a piggyback for sale(XEDE i think) Also keep an eye on ebay, there were 2 on ebay U.S recently,i scored one of them and then sent it to chiptorque for an check, upgrade, maps installed etc. Told it should be close tune wise but might need a tickle here or there which will cut down on dyno time$. I'm installing and planning(if i can get my head around it) to fine tune it, which will save me big$$$. Be careful though, if you find a second hand one just ring the manufacturer(chiptorque in my case) with the serial no. to make sure it is suitable.

That seems like a good price. I think XEDE's new are about the $800+ mark.

Hmm that sounds more in my price range...Are they fairly simple to hook up yourself? I'd have a crack at it if it is

From what I can tell yes! About a dozen wires spliced into the factory loom.Wiring diagrams are supplied but use good crimps and crimper for a top job.

Yep it's just a drive in drive out thing, they supply, fit & tune.

Well if thats the case, and I can get the one mytsgt95 is getting for around that price Im sold! Im assuming tuning costs would be rather high though? As i know nothing im under the assumption tuning is sort of necessary in order for it to work properly :hmm:

Yeah not sure what the hourly rate for dynos are. 100 bucks maybe@ 3hrs. Sounds about right ? If you get an XEDE or UNICHIP Q they would supply you the base maps for a 380 as they have already done them so ,as i said before, cutting down on dyno time$

Thats true, me & Knotched were the first guinea pigs to do this. My guy had to map the crank tigger & send it away for a map to be made for the 380 & then work out what wire was what on the ecu as no one had done one before in Australia. I know Knotched's wasn't 100% straight up either & had to go back so you might find they are a bit cheaper now as they know what they are doing.
