ok a couple of months ago i got my idle speed control motor done at kmart which cost me 100 buks for a 2nd hand one it worked but the idle was set wrong in the car and if you undo the throttle set screw it would just stall out so i took it back to kmart and paid 80 buks for a efi guy to come out and i think he adjusted the tps and he brought the idle down to 800 in Neautral but i thnik thats to slow since my engines old it idles a lil rough so i took the car recently to a mechanic and got an electronic tune up for 50 buks they brought the idle up to 950 in park which is good but it will still idle up for the ac and cold starting and all that crap but the idle will be at 950 and when i put it into drive it will drop to 900 which is all good but then it will drop back down to 750 but only when i stop the car if i start rolling it will go up to 900 but then as soon as the car stops it drops to 750 do you think it could just be the tps and i should adjust it can someone please help me there is a procedure in the gregorys manual for it so im gonna do that has anyone ever succesfully adjusted there idle if so how im sorry that i cant explain it more clear but if you read it a few times you will get what i mean thanks

I know this is a very old thread.
But, I have this issue also.
Viz, when in drive with the car stopped the idle speed in my TP drops to about 700 and becomes "rough"
It kind of feels like the car is fighting between wanting to drive but not allowed to do it!
Take the foot of the brake and just the slightest of car movement ups the idle speed to a smooth 900.

So, is there a procedure to properly adjust the idle speed?

I know rotating the TPS does not fix this issue (it did help with the "gearbox clunk"!)

when tps is set and you know the cable has some slack
and the Idle speed control motor retracts

check the brake booster vacumme ans non return valve and that hose

try looking for this

throttle stop screw is for minimal adjustments
follow the throttle cable to the throttle body and towards the fire wall
you should find a small adjusting screw

let me know if it is not there

I will check those items and report back.
Is the throttle stops screw used as an idle up screw?

Should have mentioned that this happens inconsistently and only when the car is up to temperature.

thats it ... the throttle stop screw (thanks for its name )

#1 the idle adjustment is on the throttle body and need special emmissions equipment to adjust that ..dont try

next I would clean the throttle body

then check there is no oil in the air filter or canister

you mentioned it happens when you brake ..might even be vacumme leak somewhere or booster

this I am not sure of ...faulty coil ? or dissy connection is corroded

Should have mentioned that this happens inconsistently and only when the car is up to temperature.

Thanks magna buff,

Yes, I should be better at providing details -.

I just saw this old thread and thought it fitted how the old car behaves - sometimes.
Hence the question if there was a proper procedure.

Too many things!!!
Going to put that verada fuel tank back in its spot today.
Will take some pictures on how I managed to manoeuvre it all by my "lonesome self".

Hi AQUAR, are you fitting the Verada tank in the TP?

Hi dennystone12,

Apart from the Magna TP, I have a Verada and a Sigma as well.
The Verada fuel pump siezed one day and I was going to fix it (15 years later!).
The fuel tank, sender unit, pump were a mess and well I started a thread on it http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=104042

I was just telling magna buff I was 'finally' going to fit the now clean fuel tank back on the Verada (I did do it Yesterday!).

Good to have a few toys to play with! The fuel pumps don't like inactivity, that happened to a couple of times too
