Looking on ebay you will see countless mulitmedia systems that do everything you could ever want, BUT they are all cheap Hong Kong items. They look good, are feature packed, well priced, but are they actually any good? around $500 (not inc postage) will net you a unit with the following:

2din touchscreen
MP3, DVD, CD, SD, etc etc
Built in GPS
Ipod
Bluetooth
TV+aerial
ready for reverse camera etc......

Big question is, if i want all this in a brand i can trust AND i want to buy from Australia, what is available? I know some of you will say "carputer!!", but what if i dont want a carputer, just a 2din headunit with all these features? The big brands will no doubt have systems that will fit this bill, but the cost is high. What other options are there for us in Aus?

I've used a few of them in other peoples cars. They seem to get the job done, but they feel cheap and nasty. Kinda like buying a no name dvd player in a respect, works good enough, doesn't feel or look that great, and doesn't tend to last as long as the good quality stuff (though sometimes that's not the case lol)

All in all, I wouldn't put one in my car, not a hope in hell, but if your not fussy then it will work.

I agree with Lugo there, these sorts of products are usually very poorly built with the purpose just to get it out the door working. Also remember you'll have serious troubles with warranty when you need to claim. Personally I'd look at buying a proper branded one. Unless you're willing to take the risk.

If you search around you could probably get a Kenwood or Pioneer head unit that could do most of the things you want to do for the $800 mark, if you do a thorough search.

You can pick up a JVC/Clarion/Jaycar double din head unit for about $500 new now a days. Wont have all the features these Ebay ones do but at least they will all work well, and you will have good warranty and stuff
