Guys, just a quick question. I've just bought a mono block amp and want to run TWO subs off it (yes, it has enough power for both) but the guy at JB where I bought it from told me I can't just split the signal.. I'm confused. What's the correct wiring method for the audio signal cable(s) from a mono to 2 subs?
Can I not just split a single audio cable into 2? (2 negatives, 2 positives) and lead them to each sub?
Cheers ahead.
Model number of amp and subs please.
Its easy enough to do, you just need to wire the subs in series or parallel to the amplifier. How well it will work and which configurations you can use will vary on the impedance ratings of both the voice coils on the subs, and the impedance ratings the amplifier can output at. The amplifier also needs to have enough power to drive the 2 subs comfortably/safely.

what are you trying the split? the RCA's or the speaker wire to the subs?
use this: http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/woofer_wizard.asp
depending on your subs voice coil ohms will depend on how you can wire them up
are you sure it has enough power to run both subs comfortably?
it all depends on the final ohms at the amps end once the subs are wired up
your looking at the RMS value yeah? make sure this is more then the two subs

Don't have the model numbers on me, I can post them a bit later. It's a 425w RMS Cadence mono bloc going to 2 Xplode 12's.
So how exactly do I do this parallel wiring? That's where I got lost..

mate check the link i posted
find out what your voice coils are on the sub then select the right one
it'll tell you exactly the way to wire up the subs

Cheers for that. That's a brilliant site. :)

You will have the standard 2x Black woofers in a box.
On either end you will have 2 lots of red and black terminal blocks. Wire the +ive from the amp to the red on one side. Do the same from the -ive terminal on the amp to the same terminal on whatever side that it is!! This will leave one side totally empty so you will then need to run a wire from the red to the red on the other side and black to black. That will make it parallel wiring and a 2ohm load.
lol you listened to a guy at JB, 400WRMS is not enough to run 600WRMS+ of subwoofers properly - they are Sony's and will need a lot of power to push some decent SPL. My mate has them running off 300WRMS and he is really unhappy and now looking into at least 700WRMS-1kw. Be very very careful of you will blow the crap out of your coils.
