I was just wondering if anybody else has Issues with their 6 stack CD players having trouble reading MP3 discs?
the problems i have are:
A) when changing discs get error and it spits the disc out, push it back in and repeat process eventually it will play but is mighty annoying (and a little embarrassing if you have people in the car:P) once it starts playing is fine xcept for b.
B) Disc randomly stops playing, spits out error 01, and then starts up again of its own accord between 5 seconds and 5 minutes later. this doesnt happen often, but shouldnt happen at all.

Ive already checked the discs for scratches, bought newer more expensive blanks to burn onto, and tried different burning methods with nero.
anyway when i took it into mitsu they (after not having it do b and only seeing a) assumed id burnt the disc incorrectly or the files were wrong format

Any Ideas/ Suggestions? people who have had similar issues?

I've never had any troubles at all... but I only have the base model single disc unit.

I don't have the six cd stacker unit in my 380, but i have had those problems before, and what i've found to fix this is burn the CD (also using NERO) at 16x speed. Since changing to that speed, haven't had a problem. Give it a try, will probably help.

Cheers

The faster you burn the less laser power gets over a given surface area.
The slower you burn the better the burn.

Using cheap disks can also produce poor results.

power the cd unit off when not in use, dont just turn the volume down cause the lasers do wear out ....

Yeah, I use MP3 CDs almost all the time. Used to go with CD-RWs as they are recyclable, until one day my sister drove the car and it stopped working (to this day I still blame her).

Verbatim CD-Rs work well with my Dell XPS and the car has no qualms with it. As for the RW, I sent it over to the dealer for warranty replacement but got hit with the catch-all "it depends, probably cd or burner issue" answer. As an engineer, I ain't backing down from this so I have told them I will do further analysis on their behalf to back my claim. Used three brands, three writers (including desktop), two operating systems, at least 2 different speeds and still get error 01. I'm using the specs given to me by the manual book, so I will come back to the dealer to give them the "does not work as advertised" spiel and see what they come back with.

I hate it when dealers try to shirk away from their responsibility!

Never had a problem on my 6 stacker - I burn on any brand of disc, burn on mac, pc, all speeds and never have a drama. Go back to your dealer and say the stereo suddenly stopped playing mp3 discs and that it used to play them fine. If your dealer is as good as mine they will cut you off mid sentence and fix it on the spot :)

Yeah Paceway :) Really??? didn't want to know? I went in for a service and told them about 2 strips on the black door pillars (looks like someone left sticky tape on then ripped it off) .. They were like next time you come in we will buff that out for you ..

What I would do is take a cd that doesnt work in your stereo, ask them to try it in another 380. Tell them if it fails in their cars you will walk away. Otherwise if it plays good in their stereos and not in yours it's pretty clear there is a problem.

Did you get new car warranty from the day you bought it?

yeah i also saw you had while you wait service with that rear window.
i got mine second hand from another dealer but paceway is the one where all its warranty servicing was done and was also the closest to me, so naturally i took it there for the first service. got continuation of NCW. though they left a nice dent just above one wheel arch, but couldnt prove it was them so didnt worry about trying to argue with them bout it.
the problem with the cds is they all work in my car. just not all the time, they randomly stop, or the player spits them out when changing discs etc. although thats a great suggestion with the trying in some of their other 380s. will try that this week.
even after all that i have no hesitation using them, for example bought a car from melville mitsu with a friend (female) and they were just plain sleazy promising just about anything to get rid of it. And while she was taking for a test i was chatting to their parts dept and i swear the guy didnt know what a galant was!,

So it would seem they might treat people who buy cars from them better than outsiders? They have fell over backwards for me - even not charging for rental cars. I wonder if anyone else has had the same experience taking a car for servicing as an outsider? Also my car wasn't new, I bought it 2 years old and they gave me a new car warranty the starting the day I bought it. It had 6k on the clock.

Hey maybe take photo's of the stereo with the disc out and showing the error on the LCD screen also?

Good luck with it :)
