kk so i drive my KS Rada to tafe and back, max 20 mins each way, half of that being highway, and it takes a quarter of a tank. is this normal?
How are you driving it (rpm? feathering throttle?) and how many kms?
If you aren't thrashing it, sounds like you're running rich... Check your o2 sensor, it may have burnt out, also try an ECU reset (do a search, been covered a billion times).

km's wont have anything to do with fuel useage really
Could be a few things? have you kept it regularly serviced? Plugs in good nick? leads alright? air filter not blocked? etc etc

Trying to establish a KM/L to work with just for example :)

36km according to whereis, quarter tank is the worst its been normally arouna 1/8th.

i used to have a tr 4 cylinder and it did 400 ks to a full tank no matter how it was driven.
Ok, so thats:
16L / 36KM (1/4 Tank)
8L / 36KM (1/8 Tank)
Definately not right man.

Answer my question would be a start...
You dont just go replacing sensors for no reason. You find out why this is happening first. start by getting it serviced if not done so already. Could be 10x things

please explain where you got these figures from?
OP; TUFFTR is 100% correct.
an 02 sensor is $120 and it could be something as simple as your air box being unclipped;)
Start by looking at simple things.
Air Filter, Spark leads, fuel filter. check your car is idling well and not hunting/almost stalling as this could be a sign of fault ECU.
if nothings found then thats when you start to look at things like sensors.
ALSO; Life's assumption that your fuel gauge reads 100% accurately the fuel in your tank is absurd. the only way is to completely run it dry and fill it back up.

im a tafe student working 5 hours a week, easier said then done. plus my problem makes it even worse.

How is it easier said then done replacing a $200 sensor for no reason at all?
Start with replacing the smaller things first, like, and oil change, oil filter, fuel filter, air cleaner, leads and plugs, and see how you go. when was the last time these things were done?

Take tank capacity, divide by 1/4 or 1/8 (Take away about 5-10L from tank capacity for reverse fuel I suppose)

thats stupid dude. your fuel gauge doesnt read exactly how much fuel you have in your tank. for instance last time i had 1/8th left on my fuel gauge and filled up 51L;)
the fuel gauge is an indication of whats in the tank, not a measurement.

if its the 3rd quarter then yes itll happen. The gauge isnt that reliable, id fill it up and work out the L/100k's then see if you have a problem.

Monitor your L/100km over a few tanks and then report back.
Is your temperature guage sitting dead between cold and hot when you are on the freeway like it should be or hovering down near cold?????

You're running around in a last century Magna and you expect the fuel guage to be accurate??? Gimme a break!
Mine changes as it sees fit, first quarter of a tank = 200km, from half to one quarter can be as little as 75km. When it reads empty it takes 45L to fill.
Get some km readings for a full tank at least! Warning light->fill->warning light type of thing.

One Question, if I may beso bold- Where can I buy this "reverse fuel" please?:eek2:

Hell, depending on driving conditions, mine doesn't even hit "full" until I've done 70 - 150km!
Fill it up and see how much fuel has been used for that distance. It's the only "accurate" way of doing it.

Fill up
drive 100km
fill up again

LOL!!!! so like, does it go into the tank as exhaust then come out the pipes as a liquid?

Yeah you need to go for a drive with a full tank, then refill and then you can work out your usage. My fuel gauge is certainly not accurate (below empty with more than 20L left??) and it's an 04 model!

That seriously sounds like a problem! Faulty fuel gauge, fuel sender, voltage regulator?...

I have a 1995 TS Magna and it's fuel gauge is an absolute bitch. Had the same concerns as you do when I first got it. Yes there was some work needing doing (such as service etc) but the gauges are unreliable at best. Mine stays above full for a lengthy period, drops quite suddenly then when it gets to having the light on I can still drive it for 100 or so KS before needing to fill up. Litres to Kilometers is a better measurement IMO first before spending money.

64 in a sedan according to my owners manual and 71 in my wagon?
I was surprised to find out I have 71L.. haha I have had like 10+ litres at worst even when running on the red light for maybe 20Ks. I fairly consistently fill up at 50-55L.
I jsut recently fixed a few things including fuel filter (blocked up), that showed up my fuel regulator was faulty and not opening (started overfuelling like crazy).. so replaced that with one lying around..fixed that.. along with some other fixes and a new O2 sensor I should be looking at much better fuel economy.. I was getting 15L/100K before.. first tank after those changes I got 12.9L/100K but I was driving a little ambitiously reasonably often.. not full throttle but a bit harder than it needs to be driven. Hoping I can get about 12L/100K if I drive sensibly all the time and get 500Ks-ish out of a 55L fill up.

Yeah i've got a fail guage as well but it does about 200kms on the first 1/4 and then plummets till the last 1/8 and stays there for another 35 or so... scary fail guage...

Mine did 60k's the first 1/4, 60 the next, and so forth. Funnily enough, the gauge was right :doubt:

Aww stop ya blubbering you bunch of sissies. Real men use a piece of wood to measure their fuel level, why I can remember a 1957 VW where you had to kick a lever to switch to the reserve fuel, no fuel guage at all!
