Hay all

I ended up going through RPW they had a good price only slightly more expensive then going through quaife themselves but good enough. Got the speedo gear and the LSD unit sent to my door for just on 1600. So yeah im excited but nerverse at the same time. If this one breaks ill literally cry lol. I talked to one of the guys from RPW he said he has had one of the quaife units fitted to his car for 2 years now no problems. So fingers crossed.

Quaife LSDs are covered by a lifetime warranty even if you take it onto the track. I wouldn't worry about it.

Just to refresh my memory, whats the part number?

You need to sign up to 3si.org where they have tons of how to's on FWD stuff like this.

I still want one but don't really want to be the guinea pig, I've heard they will go with some case grinding. Do you know of anyone on 3si.org who have done a 5 speed auto with a quaife?

Well, this is a 3000GT related website, which means 4sp Autos (same as 2nd gens) 5sp FWD Manuals, 5sp AWD manuals and 6sp AWD manual's But there are write ups on how to do Diff installs into the GB's there really is a ton of info on there (just a prick of a site to navigate)

Better not. I never seen the diff before mine went it, Ill find out if the number was grinded or not tomorrow.

Thats a lot cheaper than what I thought an LSD would be. Are these even cheaper for a 3.0L or about the same??

are RPW still scratching serial numbers?? hahahaha, the stories I could tell...

v. interested in this Jase... I'm wondering if he started doing it because people on this forum were investigating the part numbers to order from someone else?

Not sure why you would accept a part with the number filed/grinded off.

what else are you going to do? send it back and not have 1) the part, and 2) the information needed to order it from someone else...?

don't worry, I was fairly pissed off when I realised what he had done. but it didn't stop us from working out which diff it was. QDH7B-R is the part number. see here (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60783)

the diffs arent hard to fit.... if u can get the box out

pull off the bellhousing side of the box and the diff slides straight out... but putting a new diff in requires u to change the shim behind the cone bearing to set the correct preload... seleceting the right shim is the hard part

In autos at least

Expect to pay ~$1000-1300 for someone who knows what they are doing (i.e a diff/gearbox specialist) to fit one...unless you do your own gearbox R & R, mate's rates etc.

I've had my Quaife for quite some time now, with both NA and Sprintex'd motor, and street and track-oriented suspension setups. I will will say no matter what other mods you have, if you wish to track your magna or to a lesser extent fang it properly on some good roads, a good LSD is one of the best bang-for-buck mods you can do for a Magna, despite the relatively high cost.

Hmmmm would it be cheaper to supply the gearbox allready removed from the car? Or is this the cost of the diff installation alone?
If so I think some reasurch is on the cards for a diy install and write up?

biggest part of the job is removing the gearbox yeh... whatever someone would charge u 2 change a clutch, this is the amount you should be saving

if u had the correct tools, it would only take 3 days max out, install, in
had my box out in 1 day and back in just over a day
probably quicker if uve done it before

Yeah because he didnt want forum members to really know how far up the bum he had shafted them.....

Oh the stories i could tell on there pricing Vs what a local engine builder/parts supplier can supply for....

Totally agree with that statement. When i first fitted a LSD to my magna back years ago and i did my first track day with i was like WOW thats made a huge difference, it transformed the car out of corners and power down.

I found it to be the next best mod after the supercharger. These things are awesome, no more tyre smoke come in the window when exiting roundabouts:happy:

if you no what your doing..

box out, new diff fitted, box back in..car on road.. 1 day.... even less if you can get a few more hands helping out....

first time box out and back in took me 1 day getting it out, one day getting it back in.. done a few since then and can do it well under 1 full day....
