dangerous
stuffs up the stability of ur car
springs wont be albe to suppost more heavy loads. think about half a spring  (not exactly half but u get the point)
think ur car will bounce too much and scrape the ground
will only look better but not perform better
NB: last two i'm not 100% on
if the spring need to be heated then cut, springs wont be as strong n e more (not sure how they are cut)
its not worth doing
just spend the 2-300bucks, get some good stiff spings. get it done proporly and u wont regret it

Just in case you don't read your thread on MOGWA.
Pros: should lower your car a little.
Cons: Illegal, dangerous, springs and suspension aren't designed for cut springs.
Just get lowered springs. I'd hate to hear that someone's killed someone because a cut spring has popped out and cause the car to vear in someone. Yes, it has happened before.
basically, don't do it, end of story :D yes its dangerous, u don't know what could happen, its illegal, and u would probably end up paying more than u wanted to save...

Don't do it.
There's no guarantee you will be able to cut the springs equally. Also from memory the ends of the springs are angled more "flatter" so they sit in the shocks better than the middle - the middle is more on an angle. This means they won't sit in the shocks properly.
The suspension will bottom out because there is less travel and because the spring rate has not been increased. The spring can pop out because there is less spring to hold it in place.
Either case it will seriously affect the car's ability to hold onto the road.
Your insurance company will rub their hands with glee should you have an accident as a result of the cut springs. They will fight tooth and nail to void your insurance - meaning you lose your car (if you total it) and you have to pay for all the damage to someone else's property (either to that person or to their insurance company (who will sue you)). That's after they drag you through the entire court process.
You will get defected, and if so you will have to buy a set of new springs to replace the defected one. So buy the news ones now, keep the olds ones should you ever want to sell the magna for a new one and want to keep your newer springs.
Get it done properly. The higher spring rate will improve the handling of your car. You can get a set of springs for around $240 for a full set, plus $20-40 for a spring compressor and $40 for a Gregory's manual which explains step by step how to do it. Might take you half a day to do it, but its a fairly simple job (provided you use the spring compressor properly and don't unload the spring against your head  ).
Technically, I think you are supposed to make an application to the Department of Planning and Infrastructure before you undertake the work and will need to take it over the pits to get it all checked out once it is done. I'm doing this when I lower mine to ensure everything is kosher with my insurance company.
If you are doing this because you can't afford new springs, then I have three words for you - save, save, save. It'll actually cost you less to do it properly than if you smash your car up as a result of it.

but no way id use it for everyday driving!!! hell, my lowered springs are already made me too low! lol

i cut the springs in my mitsubishi starion, looks much better, handles heaps better.. for the first 6 months it was actually a lot less bouncy than the old springs i had, but then after about 6 months, because the shockers travel a lot less, due to being compressed most of the time, the shockers wear out then ur in for some fun  u will bounce all over the place, instead of the shockers absorbing the bumps you will just bounce on the springs, you will need to be a lot more careful when driving as going around a bend and hitting a bump will mean the back will jump up and go a little side ways.. and yeah, you will have some more friends in fancy cars with lights on the roof stopping you for a chat every now and then :bowrofl:
at the end of the day its up to you, just be very careful
and just to clear something up
if the spring need to be heated then cut, springs wont be as strong n e more (not sure how they are cut)
you dont need to heat the springs, u just take them out (or not if your lazy and know what your doing) grab the grinder and cut away lol

chopped springs are better than compressed springs. If you're cutting 1-2 coils it should be fine so long as you cut them carefully to make sure they sit right. You have to make sure you only cut dead coils as they dont really do much.
Compressing your springs makes ur springs softer and also stuffs up your spring rate. Also chances are you'll need to re-powder coat them coz the powder coating will loose its elasticity when baked in the furnace to be reset.

*** this topic just will never die.
also a little tip for choppers. THEY WILL NOT MAKE UR CAR HANDLE BETTER. worse...much worse in fact.
an old member here chopped his springs in his TE and welded them in...the car didnt bounce! so if u chop...weld em in, n u dont bounce

Chopping springs is illegal and dangerous. If you are in an accident and they discover chopped springs, insurance will be void as you car will be deemed unroadworthy.
It's not worth it, just get lowered springs that are designed to work at the height you want.
If you still insist on chopping, then follow it up in PM's.
