Before I hack into my bonnet holes, does anyone have (or can get me) a picture of the enlarged holes for the washers? Seems that quite a bit of metal has to be filed off and I'm not too keen on doing it till I've seen how it's done by someone else.
Pics?

I was using a file...slowly....and I was getting a bit iffy....TBH Not even sure it'll work in the 2nd gen bonnet, Between the top sheet of metal and the bottom pressing is quite a large gap...But yes...

Mate,
Drop over and do it here
I did mine yages ago, I used a file as is easy to control, took about 20 mins a side going softly
A dremmil can easily get out of control and end up running across the bonnet
I have a nice little set of needle files that are ideal for this and used them on my car. I even have some of your colour paint you can use to touch up the bare metal

Ah I have all that here! Don't have much time this week to drop over though...Maybe next week as Ill be at trade school so already sorta halfway.
Nah I'm keen on doing it just sorta wanted a reference picture so I know what I was filing out was correct!

Done it today (finally) So sweet. Although one points down a bit compared to the other, any way to adjust the spray?

Truer words have not been spoken.
Also remember to wash the filings off the bonnet as they will rust and you have to wash the bonnet with kero and a rough cloth to get the marks off.....
Speaking from experience on both of these.

Is it worth doing this? and do you need to mod the holes in a TJ bonnet to fit them?
make sure you's hit the holes with a bit of paint or something BTW so it doesn't start rusting where you cut it.

Hell yeah man, Much better spray on the windscreen instead of those "90's" style ones that squirt 2 streams :P
Took me about 20 mins each side only cause I used mini-files and kept re-checking to see if they would fit everytime I enlarged the hole.
I'm also using a Wagon washer bottle which is not only deeper, but has 2 motors, so I'm using 1 motor per nozzle.
Should of dabbed them with some primer but yeah they are such a tight fit I dont think any water will make it under the rubber seal anytime soon

Anyone with a 3rd gen Wagon - do those washer bottles also have the second pump/motor? Have a set of teh 380 nozzles, but been too slack to fit them. Am liking Pauls idea of using the Wagon reservoir and getting the second pump so easily configured!

Like most genuine Mistu parts, mitsubishi! Under $20 for both of them
Wagon Washer bottle idea is madmagna's so give him the credit for it!
Elwyn, yes, as one pump is for the front washers, one for the rear. I made up an adaptor loom (so that way I can transfer this to my diamante loom when it goes in) with some new plugs so it powers both motors off the same wiring but is totally changeable to stock (unlike the majority of the car)
Pete - Only reason I wouldnt do this, is they fit in VERY snugly when in the bonnet, if you file off the clips you may loose how snugly it fits

can we get up a how to on installing them by filing the nozzles themselves, or when you're finished pete?
would be very interested in this as i need to replace mine anyway, but not so keen on modding the bonnet itself.

Its really not that bad (whats bad about it?) It's not like your gonna need to take them out anytime soon. Just use a file, file a bit out, test, file more, test, before you know it, bam, they fit in snugly and then you gotta fart around popping them out from underneath to stick the hose on!
Havent had a windscreen washer system for like 3 years on the TR so good to have it back (stupid CAI)

You dont need a wagon bottle to use 2 pumps, get a spare pump (and the plug too) and use a spade bit to cut another hole in the sedan bottle, theres already a gap there for the 2nd pump just no hole. (Its alot easier and cheaper to find/buy a broken washer bottle with a pump attached)
From memory it was a 20mm hole but just measure the existing hole to be sure.

Only other reason to use a wagon bottle is it holds more.

[TUFFTR]
13-09-2009, 08:08 PM
Correct, they rock. I'll have the cleanest windscreen on a 2nd gen ever now!
Madmagna
13-09-2009, 08:15 PM
The sedan bottle on the third gen is the same size, all you need to do is cut the hole and plonk another motor in
I have had mine on for ages, one of the best little things I have done to the car
I would not bother cutting the jets as the tabs help them to stay located as they are not adjustable like the prehistoric old ones

I filed my washers NOT the bonnet and they fit perfectly. they do not move what so ever.. the only thing that i need to do now is fit a second pump as these are abit under powered? haha

Just by way of update, I have been playing with a set of jets as my wagon needs the second pump for the rear screen
Worked out that using 2 pairs of plyers I can pull them apart, remove the valve and glue them back together. I also turned the pipe 90degrees to make them a better fit.
now, one pump, they blast a mist like you have never seen before all off one pump
You will need to retain the valves in your factory set up so as to stop the water running straight back into the washer bottle.

I bought 'mist' washer jets on eBay for about $25 delivered. They are a universal fit, they just use a nut from underneath the bonnet. Very easy to install, no cutting required - plus, you can always revert back to original jets if required.

So Madmagna you pulled apart the actual nozzel itself and removed the valve internally right?
Got a set from Mitsu for $7.27 for the one side and $6.49 for the other ex gst of course. While I was there picked up some side indicators from a 380 for $20.00 as well. But looking at the nozzels I really dont want to file the bonnet so any shots of the filed down nozzel option?
FYI Part numbers;

380 Nozzel 2 - 8265A128

Pretty sure you can file the nozzle down but I dont see why everyone is having a whinge at filing a bit of the bonnet away. its not a big deal, and its not like your going to be taking these out everytime you wash the car, come to think of it in the 16 years our family has owned our TR the nozzles have never come out.
Just do it, best mod ever

All I did with mine was file back the front and back clips on the 380 jets and they slotted right in.
Dodgy ass pic I know, but you get an idea of the "mist effect"

Do you have to install two motors? or are they fine with the standard one?

If anyone is gonna file the bonnet and expose metal on the edge,at least brush touch primer or paint because even if the washer nozzles sit flush, the moisture will still corrode the metal.
Will save alot of headaches especially with corrosion being able to stain paint.
Madmagna
02-11-2009, 10:05 PM
As stated above, why would you want to take them out later and return to stock, not like these cost a grand each FFS
You can file the jet and make a mess and have one that will pop out in a few months when it settles or mod the bonnet and put them in how they shoudl have been put it.
No one will take them out unless you are painting the car in which case your bonnet is prob being replaced anyway
One pump is fine with valves removed

I found with one pump and the valves installed they were ok but as you said at 100 they are hopeless so with the valves removed they come into their own, even at 100 they are not bad, they will tend to flatten out the water given that they are a mist v's a jet of water

Which valves are you removing? The inline check valves or the ones built into the 380 nozzles?

what? I thought you had to remove a valve inside the washer jet??

NO, I have worked out how to remove the valves inside the actual jets as these are the ones that cause a large loss of pressure

Just grab 2 pairs of plyers, use the first pair to hold the body of the nozzle (bit that goes through the bonnet) and the second set to twist the bottom bit. It is easy to see where it joins, has very little glue from the factory holding it together

I installed the 380 washer nozzles onto the TH today. I thought i'd add a few pictures showing what Madmagna has suggested above.
New and old together, quite a difference in size.

New and old, this time in profile. The arrow points to the join...a pair of pliers on either side and a dcent twist to seperate the 2 parts.

The end result, showing the spring/valve removed from the upper piece of the nozzle.
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh110/caz375/Magna_2010_014.jpg
As per Madmagna, when i re-attached the top and bottom parts (using supaglue), i attached the bottom part at a right angle with the part that the hose attaches to pointing to the mudguard on each side.
That is, drivers side has the hose pipe pointing towards the drivers door and the passenger hose pipe pointing towards the passenger mudguard. This makes running the hose much easier with less chance of kinking.
Here's a pic of one completed and one awaiting to be done.
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh110/caz375/Magna_2010_015.jpg
End result is amazing and well worth the effort.
