Hi all,
I got a local Mitsubishi dealer to organize a replacement key for my KJ Verada and they tell me it will have to be 'programmed' into the car so the immobilizer recognizes the signal from the transponder inside the key which which will cost x amount of dollars. Does anyone know if I can do this myself like getting a new keyless remote to work or is it something only they can do?
Cheers.

Make sure you take your rego papers and licence to prove you are the owner of the rada. last time I got a new key and programming it was $62 for key and $64 for the programming. Mitsubishi are the only ones that can do it afaik. The remote alarm (green and red button) you can program yourself. (They cost $52)

can anyone tell me why i rang up mitsu 2 get a key for one of my ralliarts.. they said no worries it will be here in a few weeks
3 weeks later i walked into mitsu, without the car.. picked the new key up.. took it home and it worked fine...
so they cut it and programmed it without the other key or the car..

Yeah I went to your average Joe locksmiths the other day and they charge ~$120 for copy and program. By the sounds of it, it's better to goto the dealer if it doesn't cost that much more.
Because:
- a locksmith will simply COPY the code, and the lost key can still be used on your car
- the dealer will actually reset/change the code (if you request it) rendering the lost key useless

deffinitely a conspiracy, maybe they have all the ralli art keys on file, and when you ask for one they already have the cut and immobliser details??? probably not.

I got my new button today - Oh the joy of being able to open and lock my car without the key!! I've been a pretty lazy bugger for over 2years! Only cost $66 for the remote and programmed it in the carpark before I drove home.
 Might order a new key for that that nice 307 HSV around the corner, his vin number's on the windscreen........
