I've just replaced the front brake pads on my '01 Solara and I have a squeal after taking my foot off the pedal at slow speed. I also get a similar type of noise when cornering right. It sounds like the calippers are not releasing far enough. Has anyone ever had the same problem ?.

Did you replace discs at the same time or get them machined?
If not you need to put a slightly filed edge (45 degree) on the top and bottom edge of the pads to stop them from rubbing against the disc.
Also putting anti squeal paste on the pad backing surfaces that contact the piston, caliper and cradle will help stop vibration.

As Nemisis stated, anti squeal and also if you have not machined rotors then you need to to champher the edges as Nemesis stated

Thanks so much. I had the pads installed by a mechanic but as for chamforing at 45 degrees I haven't a clue. I did have the same high pitched noise problem for a few months prior to changing the pads, but it was intermittent.
Thanks for your time & energy Nemisis
Cheers

Thanks Madmagna, I shall take the car back to the mechanic on Monday and let him sort it out. I don't have the tools for chamforing, but seeing as your good self & Nemisis both said about the 45 degrees. I'll tell him to try that.
Again thanks

i got told the squealing from my brakes was due to compound squeal and it ouccurs under heavy braking
when i said i get it under normal braking they said you can get it from that too
this confused me as it doesnt happen all the time
sprayed some anti-squeal on the disc and said that should stop it, think it lasted about 5mins before the squealing returned, bunch of clowns :doubt:

Thanks for the reply. I got / get the squeal after very light pressure on the pedal. Why it's happening during right hand cornering & turning has me a bit miffed though.

Had the same problem since I got new front pads 2 weeks ago. Sometimes when the brakes a dis-assembled and re-assembled dust and dirt gets into the parts. Bought some anti squeak spray from autobarn ($20). Sprayed it directly onto discs while car was in parking lot. wiped off over spray on wheels and drove home, applied more when home, that was only yesterday but no noise yet.

Thank Waz, I've got to go into town today so will call in Autobarn and get some. I did drive from home to Crookwell and back yesterday - 7 hour return trip - and never heard a thing. I drive 20 yards this morning and "S-Q-U-E-A-L". It's giving me the turds I can tell you.
