I have a TR V6 with 360,000 on the clock. Recently the transmission started clunking severely when put into gear or on downshifts. Was ready to get it to a transmission specialist when all forward gears stopped working. I live 65 kms from major centre where specialists are. Any clues as to whether there is anything to try to give it enough life to get to town? No, I'm not going 65 kays in reverse.

Cactus malfunctus..... all you can do is drop the tranny fluid and give it a change, but i think its too late.

My V6 auto trans has done 232,000 km! Does this mean I have 130,000 km of life left in it? lol

When they die you don't get much warning. Magna buff has it summed up. Find a friendly mechanic to source and instal a second hand box. A tow truck to the nearest workshop that can handle the job of rebuilding the auto box is an option.
Many TRs end up at the wreckers for this very reason, owners often find it uneconomical to fix and go off to buy something else. Get some quotes and see what you think.

In the end it is your call.

Generally magna auto boxes are known to die from anywhere after 300,000 (depending on how it was treated over its life)... Sounds like it had a good run at 360,000.

The old 3 speed Borg Warner box on the Sigmas usually crapped out with a sump full of metal at half that distance, and so did the 2.6 L engine. So I guess technology and design have come a long way since then. Oh, they used to rust to death too - something the 2nd and 3rd gen Magnas don't do at all.
