Hi all,
Anyone done much research into dual outlets on a TJ VR-X. No issue with the piping, would just cut into the pipe near the tail and run a secondary pipe to the pass. side. Been quoted round $200 for that which is cool.
The issue is with the body work, cause of the budge at the base of the rear bumper it quite a tricky job for the panel beater to cut the right shape out - so I've been told. Had one guy quote $800, he said he'd need to respray the whole bumper - what a toss!
Thoughts and suggestions please................

in regards to the rear bar painting - if he has to paint the bar, then yes it will have to be painted as one piece for a better finish to the colour / colour matches on the whole bar kinda thing.
$800 for that is HUGELY overpriced - he simply does NOT want your work - its too small to worry about.
for a bar to be resprayed (inc removal and refitting) your looking at more lik somewhere around the $300 - $400 ,arl
thats all i can help with on your post sorry!
EDIT - i beleive most exhaust shops should be able to also make the cut as well for you on the passengers side for the second tip. it probably wouldnt look the best as you have the VRX bar, but get them to cut it so the 2nd pipe comes thru, then get the panel shop to tidy it up perhaps?

$800 included the cutting of course but I knew it was far to pricey, so walked away.
thanks for the feedback.

Gday mate!
If you want to paint the panel, I recommend These guys. (http://www.panelservice.com.au/index.html) I bruised someones car back in december and of all the quotes they were the cheapest and they did a great job. I beleive it should cost $300 easily tho. Call around and get some phone quotes ;) All the best with it. Let me know how it turns out because I'd like to install dual mufflers at one stage too!
Send The EGO a pm, he did it to his VRX ages ago.

yeah the way that the EGO did it was awesome!!
from what i member he bought a second vrx bar, cut the exhaust hole out and then he plastci welded the cutout onto his bar so that its the same hole and design as the other one! although i could just be making stuff up maybe he didnt really do this??? haha
the problem with it is that their is kinda a lip on the cutout so without getting that lip on the other side it will look stupid...
if they are doing it right i would expect it to be about 800!
their was also a yellow vrx that had it moulded to look like the vrx cutout, but no idea of the name so cant really help ya..

Two pics here. The first ones is the new Exhaust i have had done last year. The Second is when i first did it back in 2004. Oh those tips where so ugly back then..:)
Costs where:
$180 New Bottom Skirt
$300 Plastic Welder
$200 paint and fit
$600 Exhaust fit (Cheap chop in job)
$1280 Total back in 2004
Not cheap but i had never seen it done like i had before so i wanted it. I had 13 Panel beaters tell me it couldnt be done as the plastic used for the skirt is hardened pressed or some crap which is ment to be impossible to work with.
Anyway after weeks of hard work here is the results and i was the First..:)

I did a similar thing with my Ralliart where I had dual exhausts. I had the other side plastic welded by a local panel beater/painter - cost me like $300 for the plastic weld and to repaint the bar. I ended up taking it off tho because the one I added on didn't blow steam or smoke or whatever evenly and looked stupid. It was also a lot louder and gave that ricey, tinny crackle sound under acceleration, which sounded shit.

ahhh i was wondering if anyone else had it done to a ralliart bar!
i had mine done a while ago, and that cost $500 (plus buying the rear bar!!)
so yeah, dont expect much change out of 1000-1500 for the work (including exhaust)

Knowing stuff-all about Fibreglassing and stuff, would it be possible to take a mould of the existing "dimple" on the VRX rear bar, make a new "dimple" from the mould, and FG that into the opp side of the plastic bar?
Then mass-produce "dimples" for extra-cheap prices to AMC members with shite rear bars who like the VRX dimple, but are cheapskates..... (that'd be me).

around a year ago i had a crack at doing the dual cut out on my rear bar and for a chippy i think it came out rather excellent. the way this is the way i did it.
1.got thick card board made a template of the original. cut it out and got a tin with the same circumference as the original.
2.put glad wrap or crc on tin so fibreglass doesn't stick and do 2-3 layers of fibreglass.
3. once dried trace the cardboard cut out and used a dremel to cut it out.
4. made cut out on the bar sat the fibreglass cut out in the cut out.
5. put layers of fibreglass behind it to hold it in place and thin strips on top of the bulge to build it out.
6. use bog to get a nice smooth finish and you're done
all i can say is that its very time consuming and takes patience. i got my exhaust done at AUTO EXHAUST SUPPLIES in alphington charged me $900 for piping from extractors back which included high flow cat, 2x glass packed mufflers and tips.

unfortunately fibreglass and plasic don't mix very well and it can eventually crack and split apart, but thats where the TJ VRX guys are lucky, coz the centre section of the rear bumper can be removed and replaced fairly cheap and easy.
all you need is someone to copy the entire middle section and add the copy of the exhaust outlet into it.
once it has been done, just need to make a mould and hey presto, fibreglass copies for everyone!

the plastic on the vrx kits are different to the plastic on normal bumper bars.. when you try to heat it to weld it together it just burns and wont join.. there is a special way to do it and probably why you were being charged so much

they said that about the ralliart rear too.... and yes, thats why it costs so much :(

The bars are made of recycled 'bitsa' plastics and barely weld. I got a few welds to take but they pulled away in too many spots to be viable. There are specific plastic rods available apparently to suit. I used a piece of the original bumper and still was very hit and miss - mostly miss.
