I superglued the lid so it wouldn't open, eliminating any possible vacuum leaks... Then I put the resonator back on because it really is a shit idea.

ha ha yeah i actually think they are on there for something as well as intake noise reduction. sounds scifi but i think they also act on the intake manifold, as the whole tuning of the intake has an effect on the engine, i cant remember where i read it. something to do with the engine sucking the air in, creating a pulse or resonance and by tuning the intake lenth etc can improve responsiveness. along the same lines as changing intake runner lenth to change torque spread etc.

is it true that the later 3rd gens didnt even have them.

i have mine out and there is no difference what so ever.

When i had them on i felt no difference in the way the engine performed. It just sounded better under acceleration. As soon as i put an exhaust on i took them off as you couldn't hear it any more.

had to tale off the bottom one for the gas converter

took the top one off when i put on the strut brace

i dont think it makes any difference

but its the cheepist mod and good for a giggle

With a bit of judicous rotating/wiggling, I managed to keep the stock resonator when fitting the strut brace.

I think I'll rate my "strut brace mod" ahead of the "McCormack lid" one, tho the strut brace is costlier!

If you do this - please paint them black beforehand.
oh and small lids if you want them to inside the hole and large lids if you want them to go outside the hole (as pictured by mohit above). Large lids seem to be a better and safer option.

BTW, I did this to my old TS and didn't notice any difference. They're still on it because I could never be bothered putting the resonators back on.
I wonder if the Mechanics will notice them and have a laugh (it's at the mechanics at the moment getting a service).
I have not tried it on the Ralliart.

Only works on a stock car stock muffler, auto works better too. made a massive growl sound when you booted it...tats it, they are there to cancel out certain freq's or something along those lines. once you get a muffler you cant hear the noise anymore, also good to just clear up the engine bay of useless plastic

No, only some of the resonators were removed. My TJ1 has no resonator under snorkel but still has the 2 near the TB end of the intake

Yeah don't bother, you won't notice a difference.
