has anyone had any expirience with a jaycar digital fuel adjuster?

wondering wether or not to get one.

not for super high performance but for a little tweak.

thanks.

I havent used the jaycar item but a mate has and it worked perfectly fine, he didnt build it his old man did but it did the job perfectly.

thanks for the reply.

now, does anyone know if they can provide any performance increase? or are they pretty worthless??

secondly, does anyone know how they chould be utned, ie, for performance run the car rich at hi rpm and slightly lean at low rpm, etc. or do i just have to muck around with it to see whats best.

also, i have no acces to a dyno.

thanks

i personally have/had a SAFCII on my v6 2nd gen. Improvements in economy were found, around 30-45km extra per tank for the usual run. This economy went to shit when my valve stem seals started leaking but i enjoyed an increase for around the 6month period.

Performance inscrease with only this mod is higly unlikely to be felt. There may be measurable increases on a dyno but not something you could probably feel. Seeing as how mine was an auto family mule i set it up for economy. Setting up and install is pretty easy with the SAFC and i would assume the Jaycar item in the same without all the fancy lights and fancy display. One thing you will find is you have to keep modifying the values over time until they setlte out, as the ecu will move its fuel trim around to keep the 02 sensor swinging in its comfrotable zone. So the settings you have dyno tuned will need to be changed slightly (5-10percent) a couple tanks of fuel later as the computer slowly relearn/learns how to get its 02 sensor reading back in the ballpark area its designed to operate at. I didnt use a wideband 02 sensor or a dyno (i did how ever check the afr's onthe old girl once when i was finshed playing around at a local dyno day) To get more power you need to LEAN out of the top end, not richen it up. More fuel usually equals less power, unless there is an increase in available air to mix with it. ANything under big load, say under 1800rpm you can lean out a lot, as you wont really ever create enough heat to really make use of the cooling effect of the extra fuel used in thie part of the map.

If you get it i could help you settings and ballpark figures, seeing as how mine was all % based adjsutment on the SAFC which would be the same for the jaycar item.

thanks, i figured that leaanig out =more power, its the same as my nitrometh rc car. i was just saying that for an example. it would be great if you can help. thanks for that.

what is the price for one of the units assembled? do they do pre-assembled?

no pre assemble....

it is 110 for the dfa, and 70 for the digital hand controller with backlit lcd.

the hand controller also contorls the ignition timing console, sold separatley.

so your saying that if i adjust it, in like a week of so it will be back to norm. gay :angry:

lucky i havent bought it yet.....

i was under the impression that the ecu can only relearn during the first few hours after a reset? then after that it was set?

it will learn quickly (almost instantly) when you make an on the fly adjustment, but as you drive it more and more it does slowly tweak itself. FOr instance, the car will idle like crap when you adjust the under 1000rpm fuel when on 0load (proper idle) to say -5percent, give it 10 seconds and it will iprove, then you can go to -10 so on and so on until you ge tto about -13percent, it wont get better/ mine didnt. then about 2 weeks later i noticed the idle was really nice and smooth, no misfires, nothing, like stock, the safc hadnt reset, the ecu had jsut adjsuted its trims over that period, whether it was 1 day or a couple i may not have noticed, but for instance i had my 500rpm, 1000rpm and 1500rpm settings for low load (under 10percent throttle) on -20 on the dyno and while mixtures were getting very close to 14.1-2:1 idle was smooth as. Now when my car had a flat battery and i had to whack the settings in, the car owuldnt idle at anything more then -13percent again until id driven it a few days (almsot a week from memeory) and then i was able to go further. Since i was aiming for a mileage increase, this was the biggest setback for it. Once setup and run for a almost a week or 2, it didnt re-adjsut, it was o0ut of trim to use. SO its safe to say, after a week the ecu just stops trying to undo your work. But also for the first week you can try small increment changes to get the most out of your goals.

but what if one intercepted the o2 sensor output and shifted the signal towards rich but kept the output within the min/max parameters.... would the ecu still figure it out?

The JayCar unit is decent.. but keep in mind that there is NO INTERPOLATION between tune points like other piggybacks such as SAFC or eManage.

BUT then again there are sooo many tune points (128) that it MAY be better.. depends on the rpm range of the vehicle and if your tuner could be stuffed.
