Hi guys,
My TP magna (EFI) is having idle problems. It idles normal in park/neutral, around 850 or 900rpm or so, then I change into reverse and it will sometimes stall, but in general it just idles very low, on the edge of stalling when in D or R.

If you rev it in neutral and then take your foot off it, it will drop back to really low rpm, then after about 3 or 4 seconds of barely kicking over it will go back to normal revs (900rpm).

My old R32 Skyrine used to hunt at idle, go up and down a few times, so I cleaned out the IAC, which was all carboned up and it mostly solved the hunting idle issue. I saw the TP has what looks like a similar IAC motor on the radiator side of the throttle body. Has anyone cleaned this? Could this be the problem?

Any advice or anyone experience similar problems?
I have noticed the car burns a bit of oil, and I noticed the intake pipe was pretty oily (but I haven't had time to clean it yet), so I imagine that the throttle body is probably oily too.

Thanks in advance.

idea.....
the idle stepper motor on the throttle body needs replacing
or possible torque converter problem
do a stall test

to test the stepper motor remove it
keep the wires connected
start the motor
you should see the stepper motor move

does this only happen when the car is cold? or is it also when it's warm?

Thanks for the replies guys.
It happens when warm or cold really. Start the car, put in reverse and it will stall sometimes.

I guess I'll rule out the torque convertor, as it shifts fine and the problem is there at idle in neutral/park.
The stalling issue in gear is probably just because it drops to low revs after you take your foot off the accelerator... the extra load when in gear makes it stall, rather than just fumble around at low revs.
I'll take out the idle motor and see if it moves like you suggested, and I'll clean all the intake pipe and throttle. Cleaning the idle motor assembly sounds a lot harder on this car than it did on my skyline, which was just a matter of taking a few bolts out and removing the assembly from the side of the throttle body. There was no need to touch coolant pipes or take off the whole throttle body/accel cable like I read in the TR magna thread. :(

Thanks for the help guys.
