Oki doki,
Im just about to buy a shitty bomb of some sort for around 600 dollars so i can work on it to gain a bit more experiance when it comes to motors. I have a very limited knowledge atm and though this would be a good chance to give it a go.
I am thinking of getting a cheap TM / TP magna and working on the old astron. If anyone has one what are they like to work on?
Im either looking at this or a RWD celica or Gemini. Anyone thoughts please.
Once im finnished with ripping it appart and rebuilding it im going to thrash the living jezarz out of it.

Go for a TP with injection, the carbs are long outdated. Stick with a Magna as that's what you are known for, start frigging around with anything else and we'll all boycott the whole site, or burn it down...
Biggest prob with the astron is the chains but that can be fixed easily enough.

Keep me posted on any performance parts you come across to make the TP purr nicer and good luck with it, they look like a spanker when someone gives them a bitta care and doesnt treat them like workhorses.
Im on the slow road to making my TP wagon one of the nicest in town which isnt hard up here cos they all treat them like crap..... well good luck to ya and show us progress picks hey?????

well my tp wagon is awesome (when its running WOOHOO SHOULD BE THIS ARVO). give me a nice open area and i'll put on a good show. better then a mates V8 kingswood. plus its so much cooler having the dirt spray out the front where u can see it :p
but if u doing that just watch ur air filter cuz it sprays the dirt straight up at the intake.

Depends if you want eternal flat spots, bog downs, bad econemy, shit cold starting, and crappy idle if the car isn't A1
EFI all the way, get a cheap cheap EMS unit from ebay and learn how to use that. They are very detuned the Astrons and a Goot EMS tune can give them over 100kw quite easyly with no mods and better fuel econ... stuff emissions ;)
Then some good fun can be had. Head polished and ported can be done cheap if you know some people. Raise compression because ur ECU can now be tuned to run a good amount of petrol.
Volla you have at least 140kw without spending more than a grand i reckon it totaly doable
btw my car is carbi :(
