Gday guys, ive got a wrecked TF Magna sitting outside my house atm, with my pioneer headunit, and orion speakers (6inch in the front, 6X9's in the back and some tweeters). I need to get them out of the car ASAP so i can get them into my new TF Sports! :D

My problem is, i have no idea wat im doing! and i need someone local who knows wat they are doing to help me atleast get the stuff out of my car (would love to get it installed aswell if you had time, but most importantly atm just need them out of my old car so i can get rid of it). So if you know what your doing, have some spare time on the weekend and want to make some cash or beer PLEASE shoot us a PM! Im in Eltham, VIC.

Cheers. JM

Well, the 6x9's are dead easy even for someone non-technical to get out, just open your boot, pull off the two clips on each speaker, undo the screws/bolts, then sit on your back seat and take off the speaker covers, lift straight out.

The 6"'s in the doors are a bit trickier cause you have to take the door-skins off. If you're not worried about breaking the clips, then you can just undo the screws ( about 2-3 from memory), move the handles surround out, and reef off the plastic - or try and lever them out one by one.. then you can take off the two connections and unscrew the speakers..

The head unit isn't too bad either, follow a dash removal guide on the forums here and then just gently disconnect all the connections on the back of the head-unit, unscrew, slide out. I think you'll find once you have a go it's not as difficult as you think.

If I lived closer, I'd be willing to lend a hand, sorry!

Cheers.

ur not that far away! lol

What so all the wiring stays with the car? and just plug and play? just take the speakers out, put the new ones in, use the existing factory wires?

Yep, you can use the factory wires no problems.

EDIT: Head unit probably will need to be installed by someone technical, unless an after-market head-unit has been installed already and it had/has matching connectors.

mate its very easy to do
seeing as your wrecking the car makes it alot more easier
pull the dash part to get access to the h/u, unclip harness on the rear of the h/u then remove h/u, follow the wires attached to the harness that you clipped off the h/u to where they meet the stock wiring, chop as close to the stock wiring as possible (meaning try to leave alot of wire attached to the h/u harness)
as for the speakers, well leave about 100mm of wire on them just incase

Sweet cheers mate, yer just had a look at the speakers and it looks straight forward, just installed one of the speakers just now, was easier than i thought. I dont think i need to chop any wires as ive got all the harnesses and stuff purchased from my first installed, its all plug and play so far.

My next question, wats the best way to tackle the tweeters? there mounted where the stock ones would go in those circle cut outs on the top of the dash. are they just wired to my headunit? and are there factory wires already in there, or am i gonna have to pull the wires out and put them in the new car?

Checked my TF Exec, there are NO factory wires there. Don't know if sports came any different stock or not, have a look yourself?

Hah, glad you found it easier than you thought!

Cheers.

EDIT: Yes, they are wired to the head unit.

are they the stock tweeters? or aftermarket?
my stock tweeters were wired to my stock woofer
but if after market it'll run to a crossover if you purchased it as a split package

Aftermarket Tweeters.

Question: The back 6X9's are screwed into the parcel shelf.... is there any way of getting those screws out without taking the back window out? theres about an inch of clearance between those back screws and the rear window!

ahhh theres a special screw driver u can buy thats bent at 90 degrees haha i was installing mine at school so i just heated it up and bent one...orr if u got one of those screw driver things where u can change the bit over ( from different sizes and philips or flat head) that makes it easier as wel

i bought a ratchet screw driver from autobahn, similar principle to a socket wrench, screw bit slots in the handle, makes it about 20mm high at the most, made the job oh so very easy :) little blue handled job, made by kingcrome.

I used a bendy-screw driver like the others have mentioned.

As others have said, a 1/4inch ratchet handle and 6mm or 8mm socket, with an interchangeable screwdriver bit in it (use silastic or blu-tac to stop the screwdriver bit falling out and doing your head in).

SuperCheap sell a metric/imperial 1/4 socket set for $10- or less if you don't have one = then you need a small (short) phillips-head bit - also cheap kits available.

The speaker grilles in parcel shelf are 3 10mm nuts from inside the boot - fourth corner has a clip that sits under the parcel shelf fabric.

BTW, what colour is the parcel shelf ? - I could do with a black one in good nick, is all.

LOL my parcel shelf is black, and its not comming out! haha

Yer ended up using a 'Z' shaped screw driver that i found at bunnings, $3.50 for a set of 3! A rachet with a screw driver head would of made the job soooooo much easier. but at the end of the day the 6X9's are in! as well as the front 6's as well.

I ripped the head-unit and tweeters out, it looked like way to much time to do, so ill just take it to Autobarn, atleast they can much round with it and do a nice neat job, with all the console back in properly. I needed my car 2nite, so couldnt afford a trip to the city without a headunit of somesort! lol

Atleast now my wrecked TF is almost all stipped out. Just need to get my rear suspension and wheels out and then it can go to the wreckers. :)
