hi all my te has a symptom that when I take off it feels like its hesitating. It sort of accells then slows then accells then slows (all very smoothly) until higher in the revs then it smooths out.Seems to happen in first on takeoffs. Any ideas what it may be as its getting annoying. cheers shaun

just a gut feeling that it is dirty injectors, use one of the 98RON fuels out there with 1 full tank, or add some injector cleaner in your fuel and see if that cleans out some of the clogs.
Otherwise, it could be spark plugs or distributor timing. You could check by taking out and inspect the spark plugs and examine it. Get a repair manual as it explains pretty well what you need to do.
good luck.

I think mine does this too.
When low in the revs (most noticable in 2nd gear) and tramp it, for about the first 1/2 second it's like the engine doesn't know what to do. It feels like it wants to go, but kind of hesitates (thats a good word for it). Difficult to explain, but it kind of shudders a little bit.
When it finally decides to go, it gets moving smoothly all the way to 6k.
This is a 6G72 3.0 TE Manual

checked the tention on your throttle cable to the butterfly lately..
specially yours dan, cos yours in manual, it should react instantly! auto may want to think, but a manual should be instant throttle response. id check your cable tention.

hey i got a TE 5sp 3L and it does that too !
but mine normally stops hesitating at 4500rpm for some reason,
apparently the 3L engines are prone to flat-spotting or something, i dunno
anyone solved this yet ?
later

I'm actually fairly certain it's my injectors needing a good clean.
The car's just ticked over 160,000 and I doubt they've ever been clean (certainly not in the last 30k)
I should run a bottle of injector cleaner through it, and if that doesn't do anything, I might look at getting them properly cleaned.

yeay, someone else with 160k , i am clocked 160,051, was 160 000 yesterday. Man, it's getting old so quick.
Hey, Grecy, I think it would be good for you to try the injector cleaner first then check the rear bank of spark plugs and change them if they need changing. Check the Dizzy cap as well. and while you're at it, change the Engine oil and filter and you should notice a better response I hope.
oh and do this yourself, save the $200 labour mechanics will charge. with $200 you've bought the best of the oils and plugs already. well, maybe not the best but pretty damn good.

Heh,
I was driving my brother around the other day and he said "how many kays has this done" and without looking I said "close to 160". He pointed at the odo and it was smack on the mark.
Anyway, I change my oil and filter every 8-10 thousand with usually caltex oil and a Ryco filter.
When I bought the car at 130 Dad and I changed the front bank of plugs, but I've never changed the rear or the leads. The leads still look good and I assume the rear bank was changed at the big 100kay service.
My water pump is leaking a bit lately so Dad and I are planning to change the water pump out, and while we're there change the cam belt too. Sounds like we may as well change the rear plugs while things are apart.
What is a Dizzy cap?
Thanks guys,
-Dan

dizzy cap is the distributor cap, only needs changing if it shows signs of crack
