thanks
i really wanted to know what to take off first, how its held up (clips or whatever), and about the foam underneath the fabric already there, weather you leave it on there, or if you do take it off does the retrim still look good

Done this job a number of times, easy as.
Remove all of the bits off the headliner, ie lights, grabhandles, mirror (if needed)
Go around the edges on the side at the door openings and remove the metal trim.
On a sedan you need to remove plastic trim near the rear screen, on a wagon remove the large plastic trim pieces above the rear fixed glass.
Pull down on all of the edges to unclip the cardboard.
Wagon - remove through the tailgate.
Sedan - lay the front passenger seat down and remove the sheet through the front passenger door. Needs care and some bending.

Pull off all of the dead headliner, then use a steel brush to remove the foam backing. Any foam left on balls up with the glue and gives you an uneven finish - get it all off.

Get some contact adhesive in a tin, 1L needed. Material to suit. Pinup board material works well (Spotlight shop). Thinner material will show glue stains, so thick material is the go. Don't go too different in the colour from the original as it will annoy you 6 months down the track.
About 3 m for a sedan and 5 m for a wagon if I rememb er correctly, but you better measure it up.
Spread the glue out evenly over about half a meter of the cardboard and while wet press the material onto it. I prefer to start at the front, care is needed to seat the material into the shapes for the mirror/light/sunvisors.
When dry fold the material back and spread more glue. Continue until finished.
Any glue seepage through the material can be cleaned up with turps while still wet.

Let dry.

Trim around the edges, about 1 cm beyond the cardboard. Plastic edge strips if fitted front and back need to have the material pushed gently under them.

Cut holes for lights etc.

Replace into car, clip up, reinstall trim bits, reattach mirror/lights/sunvisors

Enjoy. Show it to your mates. Offer to do theirs for $250 and get rich.
