Recently i've gotten myself a eclipse AVN6000 double din head unit
now its seems pretty straight forward to install, just have to find acouple of certain wires for the GPS
only thing im stuck on is where the best place to put the sensor is?
apart from the ovious place to put it on the windscreen i actually want to hide the sensor for the clean look install
anyone have any ideas? i was thinking of putting it in one of those circle cap bits on the dash, a good idea?
any info would be great
cheers

I have mine between the roof and and roof lining and have the wire run along the A pillar.... it doesn't affect the signals at all.

just try it and see if it works before you but it all together mine is a bit diffrent as its a seperate gps tracker which has two sensors one to recieve from satalite the other to send to my phone the one you use i think ie the satalite one which i have up behind the centre air vents in the dash

this has two types, one thats a seperate box and the other taps into the cars electrical to diterman the cars position if signal is lost/recalibrating

my gps antenna has a magnetic base so it just stuck to the roof and and being a small thing, it was tucked away nicely between the roofline and roof.

the magnetic gps one is the one i put way under the dash i sits there good and very hard to find the other one i had to put above the rear view window up top as it needed signal and line of sight to the sky you dont notice it as its black and in the black tint part on the car wires run accross down the a pillar

Rob dont put it in the roof.
GPS antenna's should not be mounted under metal.
you can mount it either on top of the centre display or the instrument cluster under the dash as long as where it is mounted it is only under plastic.
Have you found the VSS wire yet?

ah ok, cheers for that Dave
i had a quick look for the wire in some wiring diagrams and i think i found it
but im sure you know where it is ;)
i'll more than likely finally get around to installing this, this weekend
can you get add ons for this Dave?

In my Verada i had the antenna installed on the dash like this
Looked fugly but no issues with the signal, etc.

Same sat nav went into my SS with the antenna under the plastic dashboard
On average it took between 5 to 10 minutes to lock onto a signal and would randomly drop out
Moved it to the top of the dash corner and all problems gone

hmmm tryna keep the sensor off the dash for the clean look
but if worse comes to worse it'll go on the dash
oh an Annese, i've got a climate control sensor there

Mate do you still have the mid-range speakers in the dash? If not you could hide the receiver under the foam/grill/whatever is filling the hole (in mine there is a plastic blank covering the holes on either side of the dash). Would only have a thin layer of plastic/foam to get through before it reaches the window, so there wouldn't be the interference you might get mounting it in the headliner.

i never got mid range speakers in the dash :(
but your talking about those round caps at each end of the dash yeah?
this is where i was thinking about putting it in the first place
popping the cap off and throwing it in there, could drill holes in it so the signal isnt that blocked hmmm

Yeah that's where I'm talking about, should work pretty much the same under the cap as on top.
I've got mine shoved up the back of my parcel shelf, but your GPS antenna probably won't reach that far. Can hardly see it back there inside or out.

Mohit, problems in the SS are caused by the windscreen glass. Commodores vt onwards have a metalic element to the glass that interferes with GPS antennas.
We mount the antenna under the bumper in commodores to prevent this.
Rob what add ons were you after?
you can get ipod, reverse camera and bluetooth but if you want ipod or bluetooth let me know asap as they are discontinued modules as the new avn has ipod and blutooth built in. camera is no problem though and still available.

Since mine was moved to on top of the dash no issues at all. Only when under the dash did it stuff up.

In the diagnostic plug under the left hand side of the drivers footwell, should be black/ red or red/black. Cant remember which one. But there is only 1 that colour.
Mr_Roberto

i got a wire that colour leading to a plug, wire is on its own tho
is this the right one? can anyone confirm??
Mr_Roberto

AVN6000 has 2 remote wires.
Blue is ant trig
blue/white is amp remote.
Sorry i didnt get back to you sooner Rob i have been house sitting so dont have my service diagrams for the vss.
i know i got it at the back of the instrument cluster for Mikes car.

thats cool Dave, the wire i used is what i thought what the right wire was (speed sensor) same thing yeah?
yeah, i noticed the two remote wires as well as the ant wire
im pretty sure its wired up correctly, so im just gonna install a switch to keep the antennar down while listen to a cd
whats the difference between the two remote wires?
hlucin8
15-09-2009, 10:07 PM
if you wire it correctly you wont need a switch on that deck.
Blue (ant) only has power to it when source is RADIO
blue/white (amp) has power to it when deck is on regardless of source.
yeah vss is vehicle speed sense.
Mr_Roberto
16-09-2009, 04:30 PM
im pretty sure its wired up corrctly as i double checked it when i first noticed it
it is wired up the same way my alpine deck was
i'll check again on the weekend when i pull the dash apart
